Our Gas Construction Compliance department is excited to offer the opportunity for safety-oriented and motivated journey-level Gas Pipefitters to join our team. Our pipefitters are responsible for a full range of duties associated with natural gas pipeline installations and maintenance. Pipefitters are responsible for ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and safety procedures in the natural gas industry; maintaining records of work performed and materials used; training personnel; operating construction equipment to install new piping and to expose existing piping; pinpointing the location of leaks and classifying type, and ensuring that underground utilities have been located and job sites are safe by using proper barricades. Colorado Springs Utilities is a four-service utility that has proudly provided electricity, natural gas, water, and wastewater services to the Pikes Peak region for 100 years. The starting pay rate for a Journey-Level Gas Pipefitter is $39.30/hr. Your pay rate will increase to $41.26/hr. upon completing probation (typically 6 months). As a Gas Pipefitter, you will be responsible for: Connecting and inspecting gas mains and service lines Safe handling of gas main/service lines Operating gas construction excavation equipment Tapping pipelines Complying with regulations/laws/procedures Obtaining and Maintaining Operator Qualification Certification In addition to the Pipefitter duties listed above, a Pipefitter Specialist will also be responsible for: Providing technical guidance and training others Technically proficient with tools and equipment associated with the installation and maintenance of the Distribution system Installing main/service lines Locating and classifying leaks Technically proficient with tools and equipment associated with the installation and maintenance of the Distribution system Qualified candidates must meet the following requirements and expectations: Completion of a Gas Pipefitter Apprentice program (DOL or NDOL) or have 4 or more years of relevant experience installing and repairing gas mains and service lines (Operator Qualifications, etc). Additionally, one year of experience at the Journey Gas Pipefitter level is required to qualify for the Specialist level Driving a Colorado Springs Utilities commercial vehicle is a requirement of this position, as such the successful candidate needs to have a Class A Commercial Driver's license w/ tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within six months of starting This position is designated as a first responder for emergencies. It is highly preferred that all pipefitters live in the Service Territory and receive at least one utility service (gas, electric, or water) from Colorado Springs Utilities. Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis The successful candidate will be required to pull stand-by, overtime, weekends, holidays, and 24-hour call-outs as the business needs demand.
