Purpose of Job

The position plays a key role within the Supply Chain Accounting team and supports the Supply Chain Finance and operations teams with responsibilities including completing the Fulfillment Center (FC) monthly closing, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for the FC, executing accounting practices that improve and maintain controls for proper inventory management, providing transactional accounting support, etc. The role will oversee one or multiple FC locations once final organizational structure and level of systems support is determined. The FC Accountant reports to the Supply Chain Accounting Manager.

Job Components
  • Develop and maintain inventory controls and procedures to maintain accurate counts and subledger system quantities in accordance with GAAP.
  • Regularly reconcile recorded balances from 3rd party WMS systems to SAP inventory subledger and SAP general ledger, and record accounting adjustments as needed. Investigate and report on all significant variances.
  • Assist in the coordination and oversight of cycle counts Monthly/Quarterly/semiannually across all regional distribution centers and FCs, as determined. Also, oversee full counts annually at fiscal year-end, or as prescribed.
  • Ensure proper segregation of inventory types.
  • Work closely with internal audit in various control testing and related safeguarding of inventory.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external auditors at FYE and other 3rd party governance as required.

  • Oversee transactional accounting related to receiving, transfer and shipment of product and intercompany transactions. Including new battery, supplies, and scrap materials.

  • Support the monthly financial close by ensuring that:
  • Inventory balances are fully reconciled and adjusting entries processed in the general ledger, if needed.
  • Warehouse operating expenses are properly reflected in the correct accounting period by preparing supporting documentation for and processing journal entries related to inventory or warehouse costs.

  • Support Supply Chain Finance in the review of monthly financial results with FC Management. Including support and reporting as needed with 3PL invoicing, inventory levels and financially impacting material movements, capital spending, budgets/forecasts, and relevant KPI's.

  • Provide other related analyses or reporting and participate in special projects, as needed.
Qualifications
  • Three to five years of inventory accounting experience in manufacturing or wholesale distribution
  • Thorough understanding of inventory accounting principles and procedures, including standard costing
  • Solid experience working with SAP inventory and general ledger modules
  • Experience working with a large and diversified organizational structure and chart of accounts
  • Proven track record working for a company with costs in excess of $1B dollars annually
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Effective time management skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to interface effectively with various levels within the organization
  • Strong Excel skills and proficient in other Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Ability to multi-task and complete projects within specific deadlines
  • Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting or Finance

Work Environment
  • Ability to sustain posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time

  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move 15+ lbs. during archival of data annually.
