Shifts:

1st shift 5 am - 3 pm (Tuesday-Friday)

2nd shift 5 pm - 1:30 am (Monday) 3 pm - 1:30 am (Tuesday-Thursday)

Weekend shift 5 am - 5 pm (Saturday-Monday)


Position Summary:

The Flexible Packaging Operator (FPO) will report directly to the Hamilton Flexible Packaging Manager and will be responsible for safely and efficiently setting up and operating the Slitter, Laminator, and Pouch lines to ensure the highest quality flexible packaging for our customers.


Essential Functions:

  • Set up and operate the laminator and slitter to form laminated flexible packaging for the pouch lines or customer finished roll stock.
  • Set up and operate the pouch machines to form pouches of printed and clear laminated flexible films.
  • Check Quality at set-up and during manufacturing process. Assure quality checks, tests, and procedures are carried out as required during the production runs.
  • Sign-off on adhesive mixture balance and coat weight for each lamination run at set-up as well as periodical checks during production of the same elements.
  • Sign-off on measurements for each dimension of pouch at set-up as well as testing seal strength & die line approval. Perform periodical checks during production of the same elements.
  • Read job tickets for information related to the set up and operation of the production order. Must have the ability to understand the job specifications to ensure the finished roll stock and pouches meet the required dimensions from customer approved template.
  • Identify defects found in the material and communicate with the packer to cull the affected pouches.
  • Responsible for quality control of laminated films, slit rolls and pouches. Make machine adjustments as required quickly to minimize material and time waste.
  • Operate within the standard operation procedures.
  • Ensure equipment is running with all safety equipment operational in a safe condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in the Flexible Packaging Cell on other pieces of equipment.
  • Must follow and adhere to outlined GMP procedures in relation to direct food contact packaging.
  • Ensure equipment is running with all safety equipment operational in a safe condition.
  • Perform minor maintenance to machines and various equipment.
  • Use hand tools effectively and appropriately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in the Flexible Packaging Cell or other Departments.

Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous Pouch Converting industry experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to stand for most of the shift.
  • Must be able to perform well under deadline constraints.
  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent, quality driven work habits.
  • Previous machine operation experience is a plus.
  • Must have mechanical ability and be able to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull finished rolls up to 50lbs.
  • Must be a team player and work well with others.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Knowledge of measuring tools.
  • Must be willing to cross train on Lamination & Slitting Equipment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, lift, and reach; regularly required to stand for 8 hours; regularly required to lift up to 50 lbs.; regularly push and pull skids of product using a pallet jack; occasionally required to reach above shoulder height to remove items from shelving units. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
