Job Overview:

The Financial Controller oversees and directs all functions pertaining to General Ledger and Accounts Payable functions. This individual ensures that all Financial Reporting related are in conformance with company policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and generally accepted accounting principles. The Controller participates in the advancement of company objectives as a member of the management team working in conjunction and cooperation with the accounting staff, other company personnel and outside professionals with direct or shared responsibility for day-to-day activities of the accounting department, which may include financial accounting and reporting, revenue audit, budgeting, cash management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the organization's G/L and A/P accounting functions including the review of subsidiary journals, journal entries and lead schedules during month end close
  • Ensures the integrity of all financial reporting and the integrity of all financial data
  • Reviews all financial reports generated by the department, including, but not limited to, monthly financial statements, reporting required by various lease and management agreements, as well as any partnership reporting required
  • Communicates and assists operation managers in regards to financial results, fiscal responsibility and financial issues and solutions
  • Maintains internal controls and establishes company policies and procedures as may be required to conform to regulatory requirements and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Directs preparation and distribution of monthly financial statements and coordinates monthly, quarterly, and annual financial analysis
  • Directs/assists Accounts Payable Supervisor, General Accounting Manager and Revenue Audit Manager in the completion of their department responsibilities
  • Monitors company operational budgets to identify and evaluate variances in projected revenues, expenditures and profits
  • Participates in the annual budget process, monthly financial statement review and internal control updates
  • Counsels, guides and instructs direct reports in the proper performance of their duties for all areas of responsibility; Ensures proper training of staff is conducted
  • Corresponds with senior management regarding financial decisions, issues and solutions

Job Requirements: (please ensure you meet the listed requirements prior to applying)

  • High School diploma or GED- required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Related Field, AND three (3) years' experience in a Management position- required
    • OR Seven (7) years' experience in a Management position- required
    • OR Five (5) years' experience in a Management position with Wind Creek Hospitality- required
  • Five (5) years of experience in an accounting management role- required
  • Seven (7) years of previous accrual accounting experience, four (4) year of gaming accounting experience including knowledge and understanding of Cash Operations and Revenue Audit departmental documentation- required
  • Knowledge of GAAP, FASB, GASB, accrual-based accounting, organization audit, fixed asset accounting; An accounting skills test will be administered- required
  • Experienced in Microsoft Excel; Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook; skills test will be administered with a 80% pass rate- required
  • Must be proficient and accurate in operating a 10-Key calculator and in accurately and efficiently typing on a computer keyboard- required
  • Experience with several accounting systems (including payables, GL, payroll and payables) - required Great Plains and FRx Reporting experience- preferred
  • Documented experience in written communications with verifiable skills in English, spelling, punctuation, writing, and composition; Excellent report writing skills required; Documented experience with assembling information/data into executive summaries and detailed reports
  • Demonstrated analytical skills in reconciling sub ledgers, bank accounts, account analyses, and cash flow projections and sources and uses of cash
  • Skilled and mature in making valid judgments, the determination of priorities, working independently; well organized with attention to detail; and the ability to relate effectively to the general public
  • Must successfully pass applicable knowledge, skills, and abilities exam
  • Must have and maintain valid state-issued operator driver's license
  • Willingness to work odd and irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Must have an Occupational License (or the ability to obtain and maintain a license) pursuant to the Illinois Gaming Act and remain in good standing with the Illinois Gaming Board as a requirement for the position.
