Job Description:
As a Finance Supervisor with a focus on costing, you will play a vital role in overseeing the costing activities within the organization. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate cost accounting, analyzing cost data, and providing insights to support decision-making and operational efficiency. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of costing principles and methodologies.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the costing function within the finance department, ensuring timely and accurate cost calculations.
- Develop and implement cost accounting policies, procedures, and controls to maintain integrity and compliance with accounting standards.
- Analyze product costs, including direct materials, labor, and overhead, to support pricing decisions, cost reduction initiatives, and profitability analysis.
- Monitor and analyze variances between standard costs and actual costs, investigating and explaining discrepancies as needed.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and sales, to gather cost data and insights for decision-making.
- Prepare and present cost reports, forecasts, and analyses to management, highlighting key cost drivers, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in product development projects, providing cost estimates and analysis to support pricing strategies and product profitability.
- Evaluate and recommend process improvements and cost-saving initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, accounting standards, and company policies related to costing and inventory valuation.
- Lead and mentor finance team members involved in costing activities, providing guidance, training, and development opportunities.
- Assist with financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes, providing cost-related inputs and insights.
- Collaborate with external auditors during financial audits, ensuring accurate and complete cost-related information is provided as needed.
- Allocate work; develop and review key metrics with the team and lead to achieve results.
- Coach and develop employees.
- Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Provide visibility of the financial position to the manufacturing operation. Reach focus and alignment with business partners to improve financial performance.
- Prepares budgets, reviews budget proposals, supporting documentation, and budget presentations.
- Support the manufacturing team with capital expenditure proposals.
- Report significant variances every week by investigating potential problems and devising solutions with cross-functional department teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) preferred.
- Proven experience (X years) in cost accounting or a related role, with experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
- Thorough knowledge of cost accounting principles, methodologies, and techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret cost data and trends to support decision-making.
- Proficiency in cost accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and integrity in financial reporting and analysis.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
