JOB SUMMARY

A Field Applications Engineer (FAE) is required to work closely with our customers, business development, and internal engineering teams to provide pre- and post-sales technical support for Jabil's major fiber optic networking customers in North America/World Wide. Main activities include engaging with customers on technical inquiries, resolving technical issues on optical networking products, and acting as the technical liaison between the customer and Jabil engineering groups. This role is important in enabling key customers to use Jabil's pluggable optical transceivers (Direct Direct/Datacenter Type) in their datacom applications. Note: This FAE role is based out of the SF (San Francisco) Bay area and can be remote 3 days/ week, in the Northern CA area, with 2 days/ week on-site.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide application, test, and quality support for major customers for Jabil's optical communications products, primarily optical transceivers/transponders. This includes troubleshooting technical issues, engaging with customers and answering technical questions, and making modifications to products in the field as needed

  • Work closely with product management, sales and marketing and R&D to identify applications, drive customer requirements and capture design wins for Jabil's products with hyperscalers and systems integrators

  • Support the integration and bring up of customer platforms that incorporate Jabil pluggable optical module products

  • Provide demonstrations to customers and at conferences and industry events

  • Prepare and contribute to technical and marketing collateral for customers and partners (white paper and application notes, etc.)

  • Provide application, test, and quality support for major customers for Jabil's optical transceivers. This includes troubleshooting technical issues, engaging with customers and answering technical questions, and making modifications to products in the field as needed

  • Prepare and deliver product application presentations to customers and internal organization as appropriate

  • Provide customer system design feedback to both marketing and engineering

  • Work as a team member with other FAEs worldwide

  • Domestic and international travel may be required as global conditions permit

  • Position can be hybrid, with remote 3 days work from home/ week but come on-site 2 days to work in lab and with team members

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Familiarity with optical communications systems, silicon photonics, and data centre technologies

  • Previous experience on high-speed optical transceiver development or support.

  • Hands-on experience in the areas of SerDes and electrical/optical interconnect products (hardware and software) with a focus on datacenter and embedded systems

  • Recognized ability to write, create presentations, speak, and to effectively represent FAE to other Jabil groups, external customers, and technology peer groups in the industry.

  • Provide application, test, and quality support for major customers for Jabil's optical communications products, primarily optical transceivers/transponders. This includes troubleshooting technical issues, engaging with customers and answering technical questions, and making modifications to products in the field as needed

  • Provide customer system design feedback to both marketing and engineering

  • Experience working in a highly technical environment supporting datacom products and customers

  • Problem solving skills related to electronic/electrical, mechanical, and/or photonics products

  • Familiarity with High Capacity (400Gbe/800Gbe) Ethernet Switches

  • Technical reading, writing, PCB layout and schematics comprehension experience

  • Self-starting and comfortable working in a highly technical, dynamic, cross-functional team environment

  • Detail oriented, excellent analytical and trouble shooting skills

EDUCATION AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications / Engineering

  • 3- 5 years of relevant experience

  • Hands-on bringing up and testing experience of optical communications and/or networking products and systems is required

  • Strong appreciation and understanding of relevant industry standards and specifications. (i.e. IEEE 802.3 Ethernet, OIF, CMIS, OSFP, QSFP MSAs) is highly desired

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills (English is essential) are required

  • Excellent track record with customer relationships, management and customer interface skills a must

  • Ability to come on site 2 days/ week, and work remotely from home the other 3 day

  • Ability to travel up to 20% domestically
