Earthjustice's Communications team is accepting applications for one part-time digital advocacy intern for fall 2024. We are seeking undergraduate students who share a passion for justice and a healthy environment. This is a paid position, and the successful candidate may work remotely or on a hybrid schedule from one of Earthjustice's offices .

The 12-person Digital Engagement team is part of the Communications department. Within it is a smaller Digital Advocacy team, which this intern will support. Our digital advocacy campaigns give supporters an opportunity to get involved with our work by giving them the ability to urge policymakers to defend and strengthen the environmental laws that Earthjustice enforces in the courtroom. The intern will be able to shadow and learn about how to develop and maintain digital advocacy campaigns and get insight about various cases and issues across the organization. We ensure that teams across the organization can reach and maintain strong connections with diverse audiences so that together, we can mobilize grassroots advocacy to advance our mission.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Sr. Digital Advocacy Manager, and in collaboration with the rest of the Digital Advocacy team, the intern will:

  • Attend Digital Advocacy team meetings and campaign stakeholder meetings when available.
  • Draft and copyedit for Earthjustice text messages and emails, including action alerts and informational messages.
  • Learn how to build Earthjustice emails using basic HTML codes and test out the emails and web forms to check for any errors.
  • Review campaign analytics to brainstorm and help implement strategies and tactics for new and existing Earthjustice campaigns.
  • Develop ideas for message testing for the Earthjustice SMS text messaging program through A/B testing.
  • Support the team in reviewing online inquiries from digital advocates to get them further engaged in campaigns.
  • Update Digital Advocacy processes documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program during fall 2024. Programs that focus on communications, marketing, environmental science, political science or a related field are preferred,
  • Demonstrated passion for and experience participating in the environmental movement.
  • Detail oriented with good organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, collaborative environment, and to build strong relationships internally in a limited timeframe.
  • Must commit to 15-30 hours/week.

Compensation:

Interns at Earthjustice receive an hourly rate. The pay rates for fall 2024 will be confirmed by early-June but will be at least the highest national minimum wage.
