The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) at The Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) seeks a Faculty Research Assistant (FRA) who has a Ph.D. in microbiology or marine biology and experience working with microalgae and bacteria. Expertise in growing microalgae, assessing algal biomass and analyzing bacterial communities by 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis is preferred. Experience in applying molecular biology approaches such as genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics would be an advantage. An MS-level experienced technician with appropriate expertise will also be considered for this position. The position is in the laboratory of Dr. Russell Hill and includes collaboration with other researchers. The FRA will work in a research project funded by the US Department of Energy. Non-US citizens will go through a rigorous clearance process which can take a few months. In the case of a non-US citizen, hiring can only happen after the clearance process has been finalized.
