SCH OF REHABILITATION SCIENCES - Faculty-Rehabilitation Science Job Classification Faculty Full-Time (75-100%) Position summary The primary responsibilities of this faculty appointment are to teach in the DPT program and serve as the neurology track coordinator. The faculty appointment has administrative, academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences (SRS). Qualifications summary Earned Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from a CAPTE accredited program. Earned advanced doctorate (academic or professional). Candidates enrolled in an advanced doctorate with a reasonable projected completion date may be considered. Minimum five years of relevant clinical experience in neurology. APTA Board-Certified Neurological Clinical Specialist preferred. Minimum two years of teaching experience preferred, may include clinical education. Minimum two years of management experience, serving in leadership roles within a given organization preferred. Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing. Duties and responsibilities As faculty member duties include: Promote the mission and vision of the University, College of Health and Human Service and the School of Rehabilitation Sciences Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research, and administration. Attend and actively engage in School, College and University faculty meetings and committees as assigned by School Chairperson Work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers. Prepare course materials, deliver lectures, conduct labs, administer and grade student assignments/examinations. Develop quality learning experiences that promote critical thinking in students Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments. Evaluate students' performance to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning. Serve as instructor for independent studies as needed. Design and conduct research in particular field of knowledge. Present and publish research findings in peer reviewed forums. Direct, advise and provide mentorship to Postprofessional doctoral students in research. Student advising and mentorship on academic curricula. Conduct DPT applicant interviews as requested. Participate in pre-PT recruitment events on-campus as requested. Arrange accommodations for students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Evening and weekend hours may be required. As a track coordinator duties include planning, coordination, facilitation, administration, and monitoring activities on behalf of the academic program in the assigned track such as: Reviewing syllabi and course content within track prior to start of semester. Coaching adjunct faculty in their course development and professional growth. Introducing adjunct faculty and related guest speakers to the cohort. Monitoring all changes in curriculum, textbook, methods, guest lecturers, off-site labs, etc. in preparation of formal curriculum review report. Providing instructional support and coaching as needed throughout the semester. Assisting in designing effective tests and measures as needed. Sitting in on a minimum of one lecture/lab and complete faculty peer evaluation form and provide a copy to the evaluated faculty and School Chairperson. Consulting with adjunct faculty for each course in assigned track and providing anticipated budget needs, for future course, to the School Chairperson. Supervisory responsibilities Supervise relevant clinical and adjunct faculty in assigned track. Supervise students, student workers and graduate assistants in their assigned tasks. Qualifications In addition to qualifications summary above: Track record of ongoing research with publications in peer reviewed journals and/or professional presentations preferred. Communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills. Ability to utilize different methods and media in delivering course materials. Current knowledge and experience in the use of information and computer applications, such as word processing, statistical analysis tools, spreadsheets, or proven ability to learn these skills. Current physical therapist license with eligibility for licensure in Michigan. Qualified for American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) membership. Enthusiasm for the profession of physical therapy. Exhibits a willingness to adhere to Christian principles, specifically SDA principles. A member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good and regular standing preferred. Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing. Technical competencies LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to effectively communicate expressively and receptively in English with all persons via written, electronic, and verbal methods. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Knowledge of common research statistical analyses. REASONING ABILITY Possess critical inquiry skills and judgment necessary to guide faculty and students and to interact with other faculty and staff. Interpersonal interactions In addition to skills and abilities listed above, this individual must be comfortable interacting with students in an advisory and supervisory role. Physical demands Physical demands of this job are in keeping with being a faculty member in an educational institution. Be willing to travel by personal vehicle or commercial transportation for distant assignments and professional conferences. Be able to be away from home for two or more days at one time for distant assignments and professional conferences.
