About Sail Beyond Cancer Annapolis:

Sail Beyond Cancer Annapolis (SBCA) is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to taking those living with cancer - and their loved ones - for private three-hour respite sails on the Chesapeake Bay. SBCA's mission is "Honoring those being challenged by cancer by harnessing the healing powers of wind, water and sail."

Sail Beyond Cancer Annapolis is currently seeking a self-driven and dynamic leader to serve as the next Executive Director. The ideal candidate will be passionate about SBCA's mission and motivated to grow the organization and its network of volunteers, partners, and supporters in the community. They will be responsible for ensuring ongoing programatic excellence, and a consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, and communications.

Key Responsibilities:


• Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan, including expanding current semi- annual appeals, major gifts, grants, corporate contributions, special campaigns, and events;


• Lead and strategize with the Board to identify, cultivate, and solicit major individual and corporate donors;


• Develop and manage annual organizational budget with the Board of Directors and ensure accurate financial accounting and reporting;


• Manage and actively engage 90+ volunteers, including their training, logistics, and scheduling;


• Coordinate and actively engage key volunteer leaders, including lead captains, lead crew and training coordinators, schedulers, and volunteer coordinators;


• Manage and coordinate100+ volunteer-led sailing excursions annually during the sailing season;


• Ensure effective systems to track program progress so as to measure success that can be effectively communicated to stakeholders;


• Develop, increase, and refine SBCA's social media presence and other media opportunities;


• Serve as public spokesperson for the organization, in conjunction with the Board President;


• Oversee stewardship and maintenance of SBCA's 40' sailing vessel Anneliese, as well as other equipment and inventory;


• Manage the SBCA CRM/donor database, (Salesforce);


• Maintain and ensure appropriate filings to government agencies;


• Actively engage and work closely with the Board of Directors, through regular meetings, communications, and events.

Qualifications:


• Nonprofit leadership, management, and supervisory experience in growing an organization, including working with boards and volunteers;


• Fundraising experience, including successful track record of developing and implementing multi-faceted development plans, which include appeals, major gifts, grants, corporate donations and events;


• Experience in developing effective relationships with major donors and prospects, and making successful solicitations;


• Experience in communications, strategic planning, and stakeholder/community relations;


• Flexible and adaptable self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and direction;


• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem solving skills;


• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and stay organized;


• Excellent written and oral and communication skills;


• While sailing experience is not necessary, comfort with sailing and a passion to serve those challenged by cancer is essential.

Reporting Relationship:

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors. The current SBCA Board is a small group of passionate, highly engaged volunteers that provide support to the Executive Director.

Work Arrangement:

The Executive Director position is currently part-time, however, it could be transitioned to full- time as we increase our budget. The Executive Director will need to be onsite near Annapolis, MD frequently during the spring, summer and fall sailing season for program oversight and donor and community partner engagement. The job requires 20-25 hours per week, sometimes during evenings and weekends for special events or to meet deadlines. The Executive Director should also feel comfortable being on a sailboat for 4 hours at a time.

Salary:

Annual salary is $30,000.
