We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Permanent Estimator for our Heavy Civil Construction division. This is an exceptional opportunity for a candidate with a strong background in self-perform construction, who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for our heavy civil construction projects, including underground utilities, site work, drainage, and roadway construction. Your expertise in HCSS, Microsoft Project, value engineering, blueprint reading, project estimation, and negotiation will be key to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

As a Permanent Estimator, you will be responsible for:

1. Developing detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
2. Evaluating and analyzing bid documents, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates.
3. Conducting site visits and gathering all necessary data to accurately estimate costs.
4. Using Microsoft Project to manage and track project timelines and costs.
5. Applying value engineering principles to optimize project costs without compromising quality.
6. Reading and interpreting blueprints and technical documents to prepare accurate estimates.
7. Negotiating with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to secure the best prices and contracts.
8. Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project scope and requirements.
9. Presenting estimates to senior management and clients, explaining the basis for the costs and the methods used to calculate them.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

1. A minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating for heavy civil construction projects, with a focus on self-perform work.
2. Proven expertise in estimating costs for underground utilities, site work, drainage, and roadway construction.
3. Strong knowledge of contract management principles and practices.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Project or similar project management software.
5. Solid understanding of value engineering principles and techniques.
6. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
7. Excellent negotiation skills, with a track record of securing favorable terms and prices.
8. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a high level of accuracy in calculations and estimates.
9. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex information to a variety of audiences.
10. A degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.
