GENERAL SUMMARY With minimal supervision, drives and operates heavy equipment in the construction, repair, and maintenance of county roads, bridges or related structures, and other county property. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Operate heavy road construction equipment, properly load, secure, and transport heavy equipment and materials. Operate semi-complex equipment such as mowers, brush chipper, hand and power tools. Check and fuel vehicles, perform light mechanical adjustments, assist mechanic in performing repairs on equipment. Identify and evaluate hazardous road conditions and method of repair. Follow oral and written instructions, exercise good judgment, follow safety procedures. Establish and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal relationships with staff, peers, supervisors, or managers in the work unit and other individuals, as applicable Perform other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent, with 1 to 3 years experience in heavy equipment operation. Licensed as a Class "A" commercial operator in the State of Texas. WORKING CONDITIONS Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, workspace restrictions, vibrations, chemicals and oils. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Heavy Work: Performing the essential functions typically requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly. Employees are required to comply with safety procedures, wear personal protective gear if required, and perform essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or others.
