This temporary position is located in Raleigh - Wake County.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $20.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Environmental Quality. This position is located at 512N. Salisbury St, Raleigh, NC 27604.

This position will assist with Aquatic Weed Control Program field work. Much of the work consists of applying herbicides from small boats. Travel, including overnight stays, will be required. Duties include operation/maintenance of equipment (power tools, gas-powered engines, high-pressure sprayers, electric sprayers); operating vehicles, motorboats, including the towing of trailers; assisting with aquatic vegetation surveys and writing technical reports. Employee will also be required to obtain a NC pesticide operator license within 30 days of hire.

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of invasive species management.

  • Basic knowledge of hazardous material (pesticide) handling and storage.

  • Basic knowledge of aquatic ecology.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork and accurately log activities.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently.
  • Ability to perform data entry and to write technical reports.
  • Ability to handle with tact and consistency the diversity of public contacts required by the position.
  • Ability to plan and schedule work (ie, possess time management skills and work-load management skills).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.

Associate's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in environmental or natural resources management work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
