Overview:

The Public Health API Developer is a member of an interdisciplinary team of public health consultants assisting Florida in reaching its strategic public health goals. This position requires a considerable exercise of independent judgment, excellent interpersonal skills, good computer skills, and the ability to perform against high standards of excellence. This position may work remotely and may require some travel on occasion. The salary range for this position is $50,000-$52,000 annually along with benefits.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Determine the best method to connect to real-time data feeds (Application Programming Interfaces) such as that for the Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) Program. Other data sources may include Purple Air data.
  • Document best methods in API Report.
  • Develop and adapt code that uses the API data feeds for EPHT and other sources such as the to feed the public website at .
  • Document API data feeds and relevant code in a way that can be maintained by staff in the future.
  • The API Developer must research and evaluate two data feeds (EPHT and Purple Air) and document the best methods to use that data on the EPHT website .
  • The API Developer must develop and deliver code to interpret and parse API data strings for EPHT and Purple Air.
  • The API Developer must deliver documentation for current EPHT staff to use to maintain access to API data feeds in the future.
  • Documentation can include comments in the code and standalone report.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Must have working knowledge and understanding of informatics and project management principles.
  • Must have the capacity to effectively prioritize work, meet project deadlines, plan, organize, and coordinate assignments.
  • Interpersonal skills to enhance collaboration with various staff members and program partners, as well as ability to work independently, solve complex problems creatively, and consistently meet deadlines with accuracy .
  • Must possess the ability to review programming needs, comprehend complex information, synthesize information, and write brief narrative summaries of reports.
  • Must possess the ability to work remotely and in person.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
