Description Performs a variety of public pool and vector control functions on behalf of the City's Environmental Health Division; responds to related complaints from the public; identifies and abates disease vectors; prepares and maintains records and documentation; and performs other related duties. Examples of Duties Responds to vector related inquiries from the public; provides information and educates citizens regarding mosquito lifecycles, diseases transmitted, and methods of source reduction. Responds to public pool related inquiries from the public; provides information and educates citizens and operators regarding public pool operations and safety. Investigates vector complaints; surveys water areas and identifies vector breeding sites located on residential/commercial properties, streets, alleys, creeks, ditches, and flood plains. Traps, collects, tests, identifies, and documents vector organisms located within identified habitats and/or infestation areas; assists with epidemiological investigations as required. Treats mosquito habitats and areas of infestation; transfers minnows to areas of standing water; applies larvacide agents. Performs inspections of public swimming pools; monitors for compliance with applicable health and safety regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned or required. Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent combined with additional coursework in pest control or a closely related field, and one year vector control experience or public pool inspections; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Demands/Work Environment Work is performed in a standard office environment and in the field. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Exposure to variable weather conditions, vehicle traffic, noise from equipment operation, uneven terrain, animals/wildlife, hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, and potentially irate members of the public is involved.
