Environmental Health & Safety Technician

Are you passionate about ensuring the safety and well-being of employees in a manufacturing environment? We are currently seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Technician to join our team at our facility in Montgomery, IL, 60538.

Overview:

As an Environmental Health & Safety Technician, you will be responsible for conducting hazardous materials management, machine safety inspections, and ensuring compliance with all environmental health and safety regulations in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities:

Solid and Hazardous Waste Management:

  • Maintain relevant data on all waste generated by facility.

  • Work with waste disposal company(s) to ensure all wastes are appropriately disposed and correct paperwork is in place for disposal as required by law.

  • Set up and maintain appropriate satellite storage areas and equipment.

  • Manage all waste through inspection, transportation, shipments, and storage as required, including emergency response containers.

  • Identify and drive opportunities to reduce both hazardous and non-hazardous wastes through source reduction, recycling and reuse. Report out routinely on progress

Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC):

  • Ensure Quarterly Visual Inspections at outfall occur during rain event and file report
  • Participate in the required inspections and forms per SWPPP and SPCC
  • Assist with providing annual SWPPP and SPCC training to affected employees

Safety:

  • Assist with Ergonomic Assessments and Job-Based Risk Assessments
  • Maintain up to date forklift certification file.
  • Assist with accident investigations, including ensuring corrective actions are determined and completed.
  • Monthly building and equipment safety inspections including emergency lighting, fire extinguisher, eyewash station, tote and PIT (Powered Industrial Truck) inspections.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) assessments.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in Environmental or Safety Programs. Preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of plant production and support processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Preferred OSHA 10 training.
  • Preferred auditing experience.

You should be proficient in:

  • Machine Safety Inspections
  • Experience in a Manufacturing Environment
  • Hazardous Materials

Salary info:

$28 - $30 / hr
