Position Overview:
Title: EHS Specialist - Construction Safety
Duration: Approximately four months, with potential for permanent hire
Location: On-site at Universal Studios Hollywood, Los Angeles, California
Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm or 7 am to 4 pm, with potential for flexibility including weekends and varied hours depending on construction needs

Responsibilities:
Conducting field audits and inspections of contractor and subcontractor sites
Monitoring safety performance and reporting non-compliance or issues
Working with vendors to address safety concerns and finding solutions
Participating in safety kickoff and contractor meetings
Assisting with projects from pre-construction to post-construction phases
Collaborating with various departments and stakeholders within Universal Studios
Qualifications:
Required: Strong knowledge of safety principles and Cal OSHA regulations
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental, or construction-related field
Preferred Certifications: CHST, OHST, OHSR, ASP, or CSP
Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Ability to coach, provide guidance, and conduct investigations

Experience:
Preferred experience: 3-5 years in industrial safety or construction safety; 10 years may be overqualified
Theme park experience not necessary but safety experience is crucial

Interview Process:
Initial virtual interview followed by an in-person interview if selected
Potential team and panel interviews with EHS manager, EHS team, and HR department

Training:
Comprehensive training provided by Universal Studios Hollywood, including safety policies, procedures, and golf cart safety
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver's license required for operating golf carts on-site, CDL not necessary

Need for Position:
Increased construction activity at Universal Studios Hollywood necessitates additional support in construction safety
Current team members focus on safety in other areas, so the role specifically targets construction safety

Contract to Hire Opportunity:
The role is initially for a four-month contract with the potential to convert to a permanent position based on performance and organizational needs

Responsibilities


• Conducts field audits and inspections of General Contractor and sub-contractor safety programs and practices at assigned project sites, monitoring construction safety performance, and verifying compliance with UDX construction safety standards and expectations with local, state, and federal requirements.

• Assists and maintains with the pre-qualification and renewal of USH site contractors/vendors in our USH EHS Contactor Safety Database in accordance with the UDX written program.

• Proactively recognizes, evaluates, and advises on hazard identification opportunities to minimize safety or environmental impact to USH/CW business operations.

• Participates in project safety kick-off meetings and/or ongoing project meetings on behalf of the EHS Department to remain current with project schedule, priorities, and potential issues.

• Provides project status reports and safety metrics to department management and appropriate Creative or other project management team members.

• Participates in on-site investigative processes for any project related safety events and evaluating corrective actions taken.

• Provides ongoing education and safety consultation to project teams and contractor personnel as to USH safety expectations and processes.

• Facilitates in-person and virtual training on various health and safety topics.

• Verifies project compliance with local and federal regulations upon project completion.

• Fosters and promotes a positive business relationship with all project stakeholders.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Quals
Qualifications/Requirements


• Bachelor's degree in a safety, environmental and/or construction field preferred

• 3-5 years of experience in industrial and/or construction consulting role; or equivalent combination of and experience.

• Professional designation such as OHST, CHST, ASP, or CSP or other nationally recognized professional designation preferred but not required.

• Solid understanding of applicable EH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes.

• Proficient in use of all Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, TEAMs) and electronic database and recordkeeping systems (SharePoint, GenSuite, Intelex, Avetta, BROWZ. etc.)
