Overview ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN V (F-20691): Bowhead seeks a Engineering Technician to join our team in supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane Division. The engineering technician performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for the planning, conducting and completion of projects. Responsibilities Essential functions will include: Performs undersea sensor task assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Constructing or disassembling undersea sensor components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions. Following specific layouts, procedures, drawings, or scientific diagrams to construct, tear down, and/or package undersea sensor components and subunits of equipment. Conducting various electrical or mechanical tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data. Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation. Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of undersea sensor equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.
Other duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor's degree with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience. Experience may be considered in lieu of education. Ability to read schematics, use service manuals, follow test procedures, flow charts and use logical troubleshooting techniques Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
