Basic Job Functions:

Kirby Buildings Group (KBS) is seeking a qualified Engineering Manager to lead the Engineering department at Kirby Building Systems and ensure alignment with Nucor and Divisional expectations. The Engineering Department consists of detailing, engineering and quality assurance teams. As a member of the division's leadership team, the Engineering Manager is responsible for collaborating with the team to strategically position the division for sustainable and profitable growth.


Lead the Engineering Department: Provide planning, direction, and mentoring in the day-to-day operations and reinforcement of the department vision as outlined by the General Manager and Kirby Management Team.


Team Leadership Development: Develop and implement an effective plan for increasing the leadership bench strength of the NBG/KBS Engineering group.


Strategic Planning: Leading the engineering team's strategic and operational initiatives that drive KBS' sales and profitability. Ensure the team's readiness and ability to adapt to evolving market demands.


Evaluate Business Risk: Manage and evaluate the business risk on complex and/or unique projects that may not fit the division's areas of focus or expertise.


Budget and Staff Management: Work with KBS division managers to continually improve and elevate individual, department, division, and group performance.


Benchmark for Improvement: Engage with other divisions within Nucor to benchmark and adopt best practices, continually improve operational results, competitiveness, and customer satisfaction.


Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A minimum of (3) years' leadership experience in design, detailing, or estimating of metal building systems.

Or

  • A minimum (2) year technical degree with (3) years' leadership experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Professional Engineering registration (PE License).
