Basic Purpose:

Oversee the entire Engineering Department including design, electrical, and manufacturing. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for designing high quality products that are cost effective, efficient to manufacture, and are easy to service.

Nature and Scope:
The incumbent in this position reports primarily to the General Manager and secondarily to the Director of Taylor Power Systems, Inc. The Engineering Manager is responsible for all the base functions of the Engineering Department. These encompass improving and developing processes to improve production throughput. The incumbent will use various tools to perform the job, to include but not limited to computers, computer generated reports, blueprints, and associated hand/shop tools. The incumbent will need to possess written and verbal communication skills to gain and disperse information. The ability to communicate with others is key to any leadership position. Ability to establish and maintain business relationships with employees, vendors, customers, service personnel, and any other business connection through Taylor Power Systems. The incumbent assists in preparing cost estimates on prototype manufacturing and to facilitate design changes to improve the quality and reliability of TPS products. At all times, the Engineering Manager considers safety practices and follows guidelines set forth by Company Policies, practices, and procedures. Follows all OSHA and Taylor Safety Policies and sets an example for all team members by using compliant safety practices. The Engineering Manager will be expected to plan, organize, and proceed, but keep supervision informed of what his team is contributing to company success.

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Selects, develops, and motivates competent staff of subordinates, establishes work standards, deadlines, and priorities, reviews, and measures performance; recommends promotions and salary increases as are commensurate with company policy.
  2. Accountable for administering his area of authority with intensity, consistency, good judgement, and common sense. Delegates this authority to his subordinates by teaching them the rules of good management practices.
  3. Supervise Mechanical and Electrical Engineers in Product development and production prototypes.
  4. Collaborate and support the R&D department with necessary design and bill of material changes.
  5. Select and monitor component suppliers for the best service, quality, and pricing.
  6. Direct, review and approve product designs and changes, ensures other pertinent TPS departments are informed of innovative designs and changes.
  7. Establish initial design project schedules and regularly maintain design project schedules.
  8. Frequently communicate with the TPS Sales Manager and Sales team to ensure all engineering projects are in line with what they are seeing in the marketplace.
  9. Manages mechanical, fabrication, electrical engineers, submittal clerks, sales request for engineering administrators and other personnel within the engineering group.
  10. Oversee all bill of material change requests to ensure changes are valid. Makes the engineering bills of material changes, and job bill of material changes on all applicable jobs.
  11. Directs and assists in the design of mechanical parts and assemblies, delivering detailed, production-ready 3D CAD models and 2D drawings.
  12. Directs engineering team in collaboration with third party development partners and client technical teams to solve design issues including but not limited to integration of mechanical components, electro-mechanical hardware, controller ladder logic software.
  13. Manages and assists personnel within the group to provide sales support through technical publications and answering sales related technical questions regarding products, applications, design, installation, specifications, placement, solutions & product use.
  14. Supervises personnel in designing marketing material, creating, and maintaining literature and product specification sheets, creating all manuals and illustrations and the compilation and distribution of submittal data.
  15. Keeps TPS website current by providing information to our webmaster as needed.
  16. Works with specifying engineers to gain & maintain acceptance of Taylor Power System products.
  17. Manages and assists personnel within the group in the creation of exploded view drawing to be used in parts catalogs, assembly and maintenance manuals and other instructional material.
  18. Field requests from manufacturing and/or service for assistance with mechanical and/or electrical assembly procedures or problems.
  19. Manages all Plex related workflow items as assigned to the engineering team.



Job Requirement:

Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree

Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Generator Industry

Preferred Licensed Professional Engineer

Preferred to have experience with manufacturing robotics.
