Overview D471 Commissioned Ships Mechanical Engineering requires an Engineering Supervisor to lead a group of reactor plant structural engineers who provide technical, design and life cycle support to commissioned submarines in the Reactor Plant Planning Yard (RPPY). This group is responsible for reactor plant systems on LOS ANGELES, OHIO, SEAWOLF, and VIRGINIA Class submarines, the S8G Prototype and all Moored Training Ships. Specific responsibilities of this engineering group include but are not limited to: Evaluation and disposition of system and component related questions, trouble calls and liaison inquiries from the Navy shipyards, Navy forces afloat, Prime Contractors, and NAVSEA 08 technical codes Structural analysis, cost/benefit analysis, engineering studies and calculations Development of ship modernization design packages including development of ship modification drawings, instructions, and material lists Providing engineering input to, and technical review of, the creation or revision of technical documents such as ship modification drawings, instructions, and the supporting calculations. The group's engineers serve as project engineers overseeing all aspects of the development of complex tasks including maintaining budgets and schedules, interfacing with Design, other engineering organizations and technical writing groups within EB, multiple customers, vendors and the technical review and oversight of all products produced for assigned tasks. Some travel required. The supervisor and senior technical staff will provide employee development and mentorship, ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, and department instructions and directives. The supervisor will be responsible for planning and coordinating work, technical review and approval of deliverables, developing and monitoring budgets and schedules. Qualifications Required: Bachelors of Science in Engineering (Material, Mechanical, Civil, Nuclear or related) 8 or more years of submarine propulsion plant structural engineering or similar experience DOD Secret clearance Preferred: Submarine reactor plant design or operational experience Submarine propulsion plant test experience Commissioned ship work experience Experience interfacing with Naval Reactors, Prime Contractors, and Naval Shipyards Skills Proven ability to work in a team environment.Strong oral communication, technical writing and organizational skills.Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex projects.Personnel career development, and mentoring of junior employees.
