Position Title: Engagement Assistant

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

REPORTS TO: Engagement Director

SUPERVISES: N/A

DEPARTMENT: Engagement

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Engagement Assistant provides activities that include, but are not limited to, physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual / educational and social interests. It is also the responsibility of the Engagement Assistant to invite and encourage residents to participate in group activities offered in the facility.

Part-Time, hourly, 30 hours/week position in the Health Center.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • To follow the daily activity calendar events scheduled for the nursing facility.
  • To provide friendly visits to all residents on the nursing floor units and invite
and / or encourage residents to participate.
  • To provide alternatives to those residents not wishing to participate in the group activities, such as television, reading, listening to music, etc.
  • Document all participation of residents who are involved in 1:1 programs, group programs, special events and / or social or outings.
  • Facilitate groups with motivation and creativity so that residents are participating in functional and worthwhile programs.
  • Prepare for the daily events / activities and bring all needed materials to the activity ( i.e. scissors, glue, paper, etc.)
  • Communicate with other Engagement Personnel and Engagement Director on the progression of projects, the succession and dislikes of programs, resident participation and / or interaction, and any or all other viable information (such as requests, feedback, behavior issues, etc.) that will occur while on duty
  • Read and log information on residents and department issues in the Engagement Communication Book.
  • Promote and participate in teamwork within the department and the facility.
  • Initiate and share program ideas and suggestions with engagement personnel and Engagement Director.
  • Arrive promptly to programs.
  • Assist with feeding at meals.
  • Transport residents to and from activity programs on and off the units.
  • Assist with organizing special programs and events.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Engagement Director.

Educational Requirements and Experience:
  • High School Diploma - required
  • Some experience and understanding of the elderly population - preferred
  • Valid MA Drivers License - required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS :

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY
  • Work primarily indoors in a climate controlled setting.
  • Possible exposure to unpleasant odors
  • Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual
  • Possible exposure to infections, diseases and bloodborne pathogens
  • Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irritable and irrational
  • Subject to hostile and emotionally upset family members, personnel and visitors
  • May work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Requires some driving, as needed and as scheduled for off campus program.
