A vacancy exists in the Office of Information Technology, Division of Electronic Services.

Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.

Examples of Duties

Under general supervision, install as directed: mobile radio equipment, emergency lighting and mobile computer equipment.

  • Installs two-way radios, mobile computers, antennas, transmission lines, wiring, cables, and other electronic equipment in vehicles.
  • Installs other interconnecting electrical and electronic equipment, sirens, intercom and public address systems.
  • Performs testing, preventive maintenance and inventory of electronic equipment.
  • Performs set up duties not limited to minor wood and metal fabrication.
  • Documents work performed.
  • May program communications equipment.
  • Cleans work area and performs other preventive maintenance work.
  • May lead or instruct lesser skilled workers.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

At least one years' experience and/or specialized training in the installation of auto/mobile electronics including:

  • Mobile two-way radio or computer communications equipment.
  • Emergency lights and sirens.
  • Electronic accessories such as remote starters, security and audio systems.
  • Experience operating hand and power tools used to install electronic equipment.
  • Experience performing a variety of unskilled manual labor tasks.
  • Experience in interpreting schematics, blueprints, and sketches for the installation and maintenance of electronic equipment.
  • Experience leading or instructing others.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes. Conditions of Employment

Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.

Persons appointed to this classification will work on a fixed shift basis, there may be times that require an adjustment of work hours or overtime including nights, weekends, and holidays. Some duties require travel between work sites and exposure to adverse weather conditions.

Incumbents must be of good moral character and emotionally stable.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

The work of this classification entails the performance of physical activities including walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and the operation of hand and power tools and shop equipment.

Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation

Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprint checks.

Job candidates may be required to complete an expanded background investigation, polygraph examination, and psychological examination.
