Duties - Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds, aligns, and calibrates integrated electronics systems. - Sets up and operates software controlled automated test equipment to run established programs in various test modes to test and troubleshoot integrated systems. - Uses and maintains hand and power tools, precision measurement tools, and test equipment. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. - Maintains inspections and maintenance records. Subject to call back to meet emergency situations This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds, and occasional objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time on concrete or composition floors. Climbing and working in high places (towers) may be required. The duties of this position require the employee to operate a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required. This position is emergency-essential. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, or designated alternate, must continue to perform the Emergency-Essential duties until relieved by proper authority. The incumbent or the designated alternate may be required to take part in readiness exercises. This position cannot be vacated during national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively. This meets the criteria of an Emergency-Essential position. Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600, Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an ELECTRONIC INTEGRATED SYSTEMS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Comprehensive knowledge of the operation, capabilities, and limitations of complex electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi-component assemblies and devices; knowledge of electronic theory and circuits and basic logic circuits for power, timing, and motion controls, indicating and counting mechanisms, and similar devices; knowledge of Boolean algebra to construct truth tables and logic equations for analysis of logic circuits; and knowledge of related electrical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. 2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Skill in the set up and operation of computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum, network and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators; in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable harness; and in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions. 4. Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and microsoldering units. 5. Ability to follow drawings for integrated electronic systems; to trace the effect of a change in one subsystem to other integrated subsystems and determine which controls and devices must be change or adjusted to compensate; and to repair, align, and adjust major integrated electronic systems for Mechanical Material Handling Systems. 6. Ability to use computer terminals to maintain records and document actions. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds, and occasional objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time on concrete or composition floors. Climbing and working in high places (towers) may be required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed inside in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. When equipment is fixed in place it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouse or industrial areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Mechanics are subject to injuries, such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical energy or soldering irons. The mechanic may be required to work in cramped positions or in close proximity to energized or operating machinery. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
