Job Description:

The K12 Electrician Journeyman (Low Voltage/High Voltage) installs, tests, and repairs grounding systems in accordance with accepted codes, standards, and manufacturer's recommendations. They plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follow diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.

Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using tools such as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender.

Pull wiring through conduit, assisted by an electrician helper.

Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, using a knife or pliers, twisting, or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps per accepted codes and standards.

Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment, using hand tools.

Install control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, fastening them in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools.

Connecting power cables and ground leads to equipment and other electrical utilization equipment such as motors, HVAC units, etc.

Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.

Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustment, relocation, or replacement.

May repair faulty equipment or systems.

May provide data to Automated Information Systems (AIS).

May connect pier electrical systems at seaport.

Perform duties in accordance with AR 710-2, AR 735-5, current DLA Disposition Services (DLADS) disposal guidelines, AR 420-1, AR 190-11, and Department of Defense Uniformed Facilities Code (UFC).

Requirements:

Must have a valid US Passport

Journeyman - A skilled craft worker educated in a specific craft, having verifiable minimum experience and/or holds and accepted certification, license and/or degree. Requires minimal supervision.

Journeyman license/certificate or equivalent is required.
