This is advanced skilled journey level work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of both high and low voltage electrical and electronic systems found in the water/wastewater treatment and pumping facilities. Employees in this class perform skilled electrical and electronic repair tasks in accordance with standard practices of the electrical and electronics trade, including responsibility for performing the special work required for high voltage electrical equipment and controls. Work requires knowledge of the mechanical and operational aspects of water/wastewater treatment equipment and its installation. Incumbent is expected to exercise sound judgment and initiative in resolving complex electric, electronic, electro/mechanical and other maintenance related problems. Assignments are made either orally or through written orders and may be accompanied by diagrams or blueprints. Work is reviewed through records, conferences and observation of results obtained. Performs other related work as required. Evaluates, diagnoses, troubleshoots, installs, alters, repairs and maintains both high and low voltage motors, generators, switchgear, motor controllers, transformers, wiring systems, lighting, electronic components and other related equipment. Prepares preliminary cost estimates for materials, supplies and equipment for proposed construction or renovation. Assists in the procurement and evaluation of professional service as related to water/wastewater treatment facility electrical and SCADA control processes. Responsible for maintaining accurate records and logs of the operation, repair, maintenance and calibration of electric, electronic, mechanical and other related materials. Develops and maintains schematic wiring diagrams for all electrical and electronic systems. Displays a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently. Works with minimal supervision. Demonstrates responsible behavior and attention to detail. Contributes to the planning and formulation of Division operational and capital improvement budget. Responsible for maintaining and following uniform safety practices and procedures regarding electrical, electronic, mechanical and other maintenance related equipment in the Division. Possession of high school diploma or G.E.D. (proof required with education) Must possess a minimum of five years of experience in the direct operation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment associated with water/wastewater treatment facilities or heavy industrial manufacturing facility. Licenses, Certifications or Registrations: Brevard County Journeyman certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment. Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's license and an acceptable driving record. In depth technical & Electro-Mechanical knowledge & skills for repairing, servicing, and maintenance of electrical equipment, transformers, switch gear of voltage from 12 volts to 13,000 volts and other electrical apparatus related to the operation of water/wastewater treatment plants, booster stations, elevated storage tanks and other related facilities. Working knowledge of computer systems, SCADA and interface equipment. Extensive knowledge of local and national electrical codes. Knowledge of trade occupational hazards and appropriate precautionary safety procedures, particularly as they pertain to work on high voltage electrical systems and equipment. Ability to anticipate and plan for expanded electrical needs. Ability to learn and adhere to City purchasing principles and practices. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, the public, technical representatives, and representatives of telephone and power companies. Ability to express information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information. Skilled in the care and use of standard and special electrical tools and testing equipment. Ability to prepare and maintain a preventative maintenance program, maintain accurate and required records. Ability to access and enter data in a computer. Knowledge of Windows bases computer programs. Ability and willingness to respond to emergency situations as identified by City Staff. Ability to evaluate and accomplish tasks in a manner consistent with Division goals and objectives. Responds appropriately to supervision. Physical Demands: Ability to operate vehicle, i.e. pickup, van, etc., at night and during inclement weather. Ability to speak, hear and understand conversations in English in a normal tone of voice, both in person and by telephone. Ability to use senses including sight, smell, hearing and touch in the evaluation and troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment. Binocular vision required for depth perception. Ability to see and read blueprints, letters, numbers, words, characters and symbols which are both large and small. Ability to correctly identify colors and hues, tints and shades of colors by sight. Ability to print and draw letters, numbers, words, characters, diagrams and symbols in English. Must be legible and understood by others. Ability to use small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrists and fingers. Dexterity, including fine motor skills required. Ability to move from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling or squatting position and vice-versa periodically. Ability to move back and forth and sideways while in a bending, kneeling or squatting position. Ability to learn complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained. Ability to perform data entry tasks on a computer. Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain, up and down ladders and stairs. Ability to lift and/or carry items which are awkward to grasp or hold on to. Ability to work in undesirable conditions including dust, dirt, chemicals, welding flash, heat, cold, fumes, odors, noise, wetness, and humidity. Ability to use pneumatic tools, power tools, and small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrists, and fingers. Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes but not to exceed 8 hours consecutively. Ability to walk continuously for more than 10 minutes at a time throughout the working day. Ability to stay in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods of no less than 10 minutes. Ability to work in adverse environmental weather conditions (day or night) when electrically safe. Ability to work around chemicals used in maintenance of facilities and water/wastewater treatment processes. Ability to climb stairs four stories high. Able to climb ladders up to 35 feet high. Ability to operate equipment such as pickup trucks, lifting devices, portable pumps, etc. Ability to respond and be available to emergency calls as needed - day or night, holidays, etc.- in a timely manner.
