Help Duties As an ELECTRICIAN FOREMAN III (CONSTRUCTION), you will: Assign Duties. Organize overall schedule of work to be performed and each employee's part in it. Give detailed instructions to subordinates and assigns employees to specific tasks as needed for fullest utilization of individual skills or specialties. Supervise subordinate foremen, journeymen electricians, electrician helpers, laborers, apprentices, and journeymen of cooperating crafts in the various phases of electrical construction activities, including the Switchboard Shop. Establish a field shop and arranges for transportation of employees to and from the job site. Maintain Discipline. As crew leader, set the pace and the example for behavior on the job. Encourages appropriate behavior of crew members through explanations of rules, regulations, and by example. Insure compliance through counseling and the performance appraisal system. Enforce Safety Rules. Instruct subordinates in safety rules and safe work practices. Responsible for organizing and conducting regular safety meetings. Provide a safe working environment. Responsible for observance of established procedures relating to clearance and outages to insure that electrical equipment is properly cleared and grounded for the protection of workers. Support BPA safety program practices, procedures, and hazardous waste management policies. Investigate all accidents, including near misses, involving persons under personal supervision. Completes required accident reports. Review and Inspect Work. Reviews and inspects the work of subordinates and takes corrective actions as necessary to assure electrical security and to meet project objectives. Monitor and document project progress and keep the Manager, Central Electrical Services informed of conditions and problems found during construction. Responsible for Quantity and Quality of Specific Tasks. Is responsible and accountable to the Manager, Central Electrical Services for the satisfactory, efficient, and timely completion of all specific tasks involved in the work assigned. Is responsible for work being completed in a manner reflecting a high quality of craftsmanship with minimum waste. Help Requirements Conditions of Employment Position is subject to initial pre-employment Drug Testing and random drug testing thereafter. First time supervisors will be required to serve a 1 year probationary period. This position requires a pre-employment medical exam, at BPA expense, prior to appointment due to the physical requirements of the position. After employment, this position may be subject to periodic physical examinations, as prescribed by competent medical authority and at BPA expense, if exposed to health hazards. Apprentices in the last year of the program are encouraged to submit an application to indicate duty locations for which they want to be considered for permanent placement. Employees are required to become fully knowledgeable of and follow the safety practices of the BPA Accident Prevention Manual. This includes use of safety barriers, hard hats, climbing belts, seat belts, and following safety instructions of supervisors or other designated individuals. Possess valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with all endorsements that are required to operate substation maintenance and construction equipment from state of residence. Possess US Motor Vehicle Operator Authorization or obtain within 30 days after appointment. Traffic citations indicating poor driving habits may disqualify applicants. Become certified and a certifier on aerial lift equipment and other equipment that may be required. Possess valid First Aid Card, Electrical Workers Permit, and Clearance Certificate or obtain them within 30 days after appointment. Emergencies, system conditions, outage limitations, or project schedules may require that work be done at night or during compressed time schedules and shift work may be required. Incidental operation of motor vehicles from sedans to 1 1/2 ton pickups, vans, or flatbed trucks. Drive two- and four-wheeled drive vehicles which may include towing various equipment trailers, normally used in substation maintenance and construction. Be able to wear protective apparel such as respirators when required for worker safety. The screen-out element for this position is: Ability to successfully lead a team of High Voltage Electricians in constructing, installing, and calibrating electrical sub-stations, power generation/transmission/distribution equipment and systems at 11,000 to 500,000 volts; constructing electrical sub-stations and transformer banks; and erecting or modifying steel structures and bus work. This includes performing long and short-term project planning, scheduling work, rating and evaluating employee performance; developing subordinates through training, and assuming overall responsibility for completion of construction and installation projects. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
