Title: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Compliance Specialist Position Type: Contract Location: Morris, IL Reports to: Plant Manager Status: Non-Exempt Job Summary: PIC Group has a great opportunity for an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Compliance Specialist, supporting a 1,250MW CCGT facility in Illinois. The EHS Compliance Specialist reports directly to the Plant Manager and implements, coordinates, and performs compliance support functions for plant operations and maintenance. The EHS Compliance Specialist will perform monitoring and analysis of plant emissions and environmental performance and safety, prepare necessary reports for environmental and regulatory compliance reporting, and adhere to NERC regulatory standards. The EHS Compliance Specialist will serve as a resource for plant personnel to assist in the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide direction and oversight for safety, health, environmental, and NERC regulatory programs. Prepare necessary reports for environmental and regulatory compliance reporting. Oversees, operates and maintains the CEMS (continuous emissions monitoring system) and DAHS (data acquisition handling system) for ensuring air emissions compliance Oversees and conducts safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance training. Establish and enforce the safety programs for the facility including but not limited to LOTO, confined space, hot work, PPE, and chemical safety. Executes day-to-day and periodic NERC program requirements. Supports assigned facility personnel with all NERC, Regional Reliability Entities issues that impact facility operations. Upholds compliance programs at the facility and ensures the programs are current with all enforcement dates and all registered entity functions follow those programs. Evaluates, develops, and recommends new programs for integration into facility operations. Ensure waste shipments and waste discharges are properly sampled, documented, and reported as required by law and company policy. Provide safety oversight of contractor personnel during plant outages. Compiles all necessary data, investigates, and prepares written reports for any on-site accidents. Maintain the Environmental QA/QC Manual and ensure compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements. Maintains and updates the plant safety and environmental records as required. Ensures a complete electronic and hardcopy of the reports for historical use. Maintains electronic safety and environmental data management systems. Provides relevant inputs to the budgetary process for the necessary improvements for NERC regulatory, safety and environmental compliance as required. Job Requirements: General understanding of industrial operations (preferably power related) including the interrelationship of NERC, safety, and environmental compliance with operation and maintenance functions. General knowledge of major safety and environmental legislation involving air, water, hazardous materials, and waste management with at least one specialized area of knowledge at the regulatory requirement level. Strong persuasive oral and written communication skills as well as good planning and organizational skills are necessary. Demonstrated experience indicating effective communication skills, analytic ability, detail orientation, and ability to make decisions and meet deadlines. Possess effective oral and written communication skills to organize and present ideas, reports, and analysis effectively. Physical Requirements: Frequently sit, stand, or walk for a minimum of 8-hour shifts, including walking long distances and on uneven ground. Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required. Frequently climb stairs and ladders, balance and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and maneuver in awkward positions Frequently lift objects of up to 25 pounds in weight and carry objects of up to 25 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to push or pull objects of up to 25 pounds in weight. Must be able to clearly communicate & hear, have full use of hands & finger, be able to handle & feel, and be able to reach with hands and arms extensively. Education / Experience: High School diploma required. 4 year college degree from an accredited university preferred, not required. 7+ years' experience in compliance or equivalent for operating facilities, preferably in power plant or power-related industry.
