Responsibilities of RN Educator:
  • Plans, develops, directs, implements, and monitors orientation and education of all facility personnel.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts Certified Nursing Assistant Program.
  • Develops instructional materials to assist new personnel in becoming oriented to facility operational techniques.
  • Schedules, with Human Resources and Administration, facility tours to acquaint new personnel with overall operation and interrelationship of facility services.
  • Determines effectiveness of orientation materials and procedures through practice sessions.
  • Sets up demonstrations of nursing service policies and equipment to acquaint facility staff with new equipment to make them more familiar with established policies and equipment.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts regular and special inservice training sessions for facility staff to acquaint them with new procedures and policies and current trends and developments in resident/patient care techniques and employee performance, and to provide opportunity for individual members to develop to their full potential.
  • Keep current on the latest developments by attending professional seminars, institutes, and reading professional journals.
  • Assists Department Heads, Managers, Supervisors and Charge Nurses in planning and implementing staff development programs on their units.
  • Keeps bulletin/informational boards current by listing information on programs, meetings, seminars, etc. and promotes appropriate staff attendance at these meetings.
  • Plans special training sessions for staff members as needed and/or required.
  • Participates in writing and maintaining policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Makes suggestions for changes or clarification in policies and procedures.
  • Completes Education Department reports and maintains Education Department records and documentation (including attendance records) in accordance with Federal and State Regulations and standards for Long Term Care
  • Provides staff with supervision as needed.
  • Works flexible hours as necessary to provide staff development for all staff members.
  • Meets periodically with Department Heads to assess and plan staff education needs.
  • May participate in staff selection process, including interviewing.
  • Develops an educational plan for a NATP program.
  • Serves as a member of departmental committees, creating a strong and visible role model for a team.
  • Approach to problem resolution and future planning.
  • May fulfill the role of shift supervisor /staffing person if necessary
Requirements for Registered Nurse Educator:
  • Valid NY RN License
  • Must be in good standing with the State Registry
  • Train the Trainer Certification (We offer training if not currently certified)
  • Short Term/Subacute Care Experience Preferred
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Must have demonstrated ability to make decisions with good nursing judgment, handle emergencies and maintain excellent patient assessment skill
