Summary: This position is responsible for clinical management of all patients receiving advanced clinical therapies that support the cardiopulmonary system i.e., Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation - ECMO, High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV), Inhaled Nitric Oxide (INO), etc. Works effectively with members of the health care team in the provision of care to patients and families. Responsibilities: Provide expert care utilizing intuitive reasoning and experience; provide assistance to patients, families, medical and clinical staff regarding immediate and long term needs of patients requiring these advanced therapies; contribute a minimum of one shift each month as a clinical RN or RCP and one shift each month as a Team Coordinator; respond to changing priorities based on unfolding situation; manage ECMO therapy during regularly scheduled shifts; routinely primes ECMO circuits and facilitates the initiation of ECMO emergencies (i.e., circuit and oxygenator change outs). Develop strategies for dealing with complex problems; maintain clinical competencies of core ECMO specialist and RCP or RN annually; accountable for the quality care delivered for critical care patient population. Acts as an expert clinical resource in advanced therapies for all members of healthcare team; facilitates the efforts of the interdisciplinary team; collaborates in evaluation of patients requiring advanced therapies throughout the hospital. Incorporate research into clinical practice and participates in scientific inquiry in order to advance clinical practice; keep abreast of new developments/technologies in critical care; and perform other duties and special projects as required. WORK EXPERIENCE At least 3 years experience in critical care Required At least 5 years experience in critical care Preferred At least 2 years 2 years ECMO experience or 200 pump hours (neonatal/pediatric care preferred) Required EDUCATION Two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience Required Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Preferred All bedside nurses whose jobs include 50% or more direct patient care must have a minimum of a BSN by July 1, 2021. Effective 12/1/2019, new employees in this position must have a BSN at time of hire. BSN is specific to those who are licensed nurses in this role. Those that have their RCP license are not required to have their BSN.
