The position of Educational Assistant IV - Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is primarily responsible to the teacher and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) regarding the instruction and supervision of emotionally disturbed students in the classroom.

Paraprofessional Salary Schedule (starting at $4,431/month)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: 10 months

Qualifications
- Certification of Registered Behavior Technician must be obtained within one year of date of hire (Please see below for more information regarding this requirement).

48 College Credits OR High School Diploma and successful completion of a reading and math competency assessment.

- Vocational experience in an urban setting is preferred.

- Familiarity with various student assistive devices is also preferred.

- Behavior Modification Competency: The ability to collect and track behavioral data. Utilize data to implement behavior interventions to improve student behavior.

- Technical Proficiency: The ability and willingness to exhibit competency in the technical areas needed to do a specific job.

- Organizational Ability: The ability and willingness to organize and utilize resources to achieve results.

- Workflow Management: The ability and willingness to perform work within defined specifications and timelines and to manage conflicting priorities.

- Stakeholder Relations: The ability and willingness to interact and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Becoming certified as a Registered Behavior Technician requires passing scores on both a competency assessment and written examination. This certification must be obtained within one (1) school year of a paraprofessional beginning work as an EA-IV. Any paraprofessional serving as an EA-IV who does not pass the competency assessment within one school year will be treated as a displaced paraprofessional under Article 12 Section 5 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Paraprofessionals. Any EA-IV who passes the competency assessment, but not the written examination, will be granted a one (1) school year extension in order to pass the written examination. If an EA-IV does not pass the written examination during the one (1) school year extension, the EA-IV will be treated as a displaced paraprofessional under Article 12 Section 5 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Paraprofessionals. Please note that the District will cover the cost of the first written exam; the cost of additional written exams must be covered by the EA-IV.

Please note that competency assessment is an annual requirement to maintain RBT certification. Any EAIV who fails to maintain the RBT certification annually will be treated as a displaced paraprofessional.

Essential Job Functions
1. Record behaviors, keep data, and recommend behavioral interventions in collaboration with the teacher and under the guidance and supervision of the Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

2. Supervise and assist students in the completion of their assignments.

3. Monitor students in the classroom, at lunch, and at recess, as well as in transit from one area to another.

4. Assist with the implementation of the individual educational plans (IEP) and behavior management plans for each student.

5. Collaborate with teachers to ensure continuity of services as described in the IEP.

6. Utilize de-escalation techniques including restraints following procedures from crisis intervention trainings.

7. Assist in development and evaluation of educational materials.

8. Assist in completion of all clerical duties.

9. Assist with student transportation, such as meeting a cab outside.

10. Assist student(s) with toileting needs.

Additional Job Information
Work Environment:
1. Frequently required to work at fast pace.
2. Required to be able to physically implement restraints as directed through specific restraint training when a student is in danger of hurting self or others.
3. Requires considerable concentration and creativity.
4. Subject to stress caused by a changing environment, diversity in the organization, tight deadlines and work load.
