QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree required (completed or in progress) Must hold proper Arkansas State Teaching License Successful completion or in process of CALT/Take Flight Introduction Course In process of 200 documented hours of dyslexia therapy Thorough understanding of reading research and strategies Ability to share expertise with peers Strong oral and written communication skills Working knowledge and understanding of the Response to Intervention (RtI) process and at-risk students EVALUATION: Teachers employed by this district will be evaluated through the Teacher Excellence and Support System. Dyslexia Therapists must complete the requirements for Take Flight and CALT training and must maintain the required CE for CALT certification. REPORTS TO: Principal, Assistant Principal and/or District Specialists Location: Westside Elementary ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Identify students with characteristics of dyslexia by administering and interpreting Level II assessments. Provide therapy to students identified with characteristics of dyslexia using the Take Flight program. Apply knowledge of federal, state, and district laws and procedures for dyslexia characteristics for general and special education students. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom he or she is responsible. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations. Provide support or guidance to teachers in Reading instruction as well as RTI at all Tiered levels. Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress. Assist in the coordination of Section 504 referral process and instruction of students with characteristics of dyslexia. Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations. Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in developing, evaluating, and revising school reading programs. Prepare reports on students and activities as required by the administration. Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required. The building principal will assign duties.
