SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Domestic Violence Specialist is responsible for providing individual group and family counseling, assisting with admissions into program. Completes assessments and develops and implements treatment plans. Identifies moderate to severe mental health issues and substance abuse issues. Coordinates treatment team meetings. Attends court with participants and assists with the filing of TRO, when applicable. Links participants to long term supports within the community.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Masters' Degree from a school accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. Requires knowledge of an advanced type.

EXPERIENCE

  • Over one year, up to and including two years.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Direct use of a variety of therapeutic skills, individual and family therapy with adults and children, social skills assessment and intervention, group counseling experience, experience with mental health and substance abuse. Requires flexibility with work schedule; may be required to work evening 2 to 3 times per week and possible on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • This job requires a valid Hawaii driver's license, a clear driver's abstract, and use of personal vehicle to transport clients, as needed, as well as a willingness to travel in personal vehicle on an as-needed basis throughout the island.
