Join our team at the Wayne County Human Services, Drug and Alcohol Commission as a Drug & Alcohol Prevention Specialist Trainee. You will learn to collaborate with schools, specialists, and community programs to educate students and the public with evidence-based materials for drug and alcohol prevention. DESCRIPTION OF WORK A Drug & Alcohol Prevention Specialist Trainee learns to implement and develop programs during the ten-month school year that will educate and prevent alcohol and drug addiction. This position works under the direction of the prevention supervisor or senior prevention specialist staff to deliver evidence-based drug and alcohol prevention programming to students all levels from kindergarten through twelfth grade. You will have the opportunity to help establish lesson plan guidelines for teachers and augment existing materials to meet requirements of school personnel. This includes playing an active role in conducting trainings for teachers, parents, service-providers, and the community at large. This ten-month trainee position and prepares you for the role of Drug & Alcohol Prevention Specialist. You will also learn to provide intervention services in a school setting, conduct D&A screenings for students, and co-facilitate support groups. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Hours vary based on school district scheduled hours and include evenings. This position requires travel both inside and out of Wayne County. Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
