The duties include but are not limited to:
  • Participates in analyzing data to determine course content, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Collaborates with other counseling and departmental personnel to implement an individual tracking system for students.
  • Protects instructional time.
  • Exhibits superior interpersonal skills for successful experiences with at risk secondary students as well as other adults.
  • Assumes responsibility for ensuring that struggling students get the additional help that they need.
  • Apprises students and parents of progress on a regular basis.
  • Communicates and collaborates with parent/legal guardians, colleagues, and PTAs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Maintains and submits records and reports on students identified for the program.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Participates in professional development and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
  • Connects students to appropriate services and resources.
  • Tracks the student's graduation plan to identify and remove barriers to graduation.
  • Facilitates career pathways.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Promotes and supports smooth transitions.
  • Connects at risk students to mentors for support.
  • Provides support for parents of at risk student through the Parent Program Manager or Parent Organizer.
  • Attends faculty meetings, as needed, to stay abreast of current information as it pertains to job tasks.
  • Builds positive relationships with administrators, teachers, parents, students, and community leaders.
  • Develops a graduation portfolio for each student identified as at risk.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Psychology/Social Work/Sociology and experience in working with at-risk students.

Three (3) to five (5) years of successful work experience as a social worker, counselor, or in a similar field is preferred.

Duty Days 187

Salary Range: From/To Beginning pay- $35,045.00. NOTE: This position is for the school term only. Assignment for subsequent years is contingent upon continuous funding. Pursuant to Section 4(3)(b) of the Students First Act of 2011, time employed in this position shall not count towards non-probationary status or tenure with the Mobile County Public School System due to the fact that the funding and duration of this position is finite.

Additional Job Information
Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
