Position Overview:

Eaton Aerospace Group Mission Systems Division (MSD) has an opening for a Divisional Chief Engineer located in Davenport, IA or Orchard Park, NY . The Divisional Chief Engineer position has direct reporting to the MSD Engineering Director. The primary function of this position is to provide strategic direction and technical subject matter expertise (SME) for the Environmental product lines which includes Oxygen systems, Nitrogen systems, Cryogenic Coolers, Pressure Technology Solutions, Microclimate Cooling. This role may also engage with product lines associated with the Actuation and Air-to-Air Refueling capabilities.

The Divisional Chief Engineer serves as a technical subject matter expert (SME); creates their own strategy, direction, priorities and leads the team to drive business results/improvements for the division/region. Provides technical solutions based on existing and personally developed technology. Possesses a broad strategic vision of the Aerospace MSD Environmental future products and services and provides consultation in the chosen area of expertise. Involved in a wide variety and large number of projects, conducts feasibility studies ensuring that objectives are met and are within budget, and provides technical approvals and governance for programs. Manages external supplier relationships and effectively works with all business functions to identify issues, create & drive solutions to completion.

What you'll do:

  • Manage complex projects/programs involving multiple components for completeness, compatibility, and compliance. Has sphere of influence at the divisional level. Identifies opportunities/connections within the company and technical associations that enhances business performance.

  • Development and execution ownership of engineering technical roadmaps. Utilizes domain expertise to drive innovation and technology roadmap activities aligned to customer needs.

  • Engineering technical role for Environmental products aligned to the MSD business growth objectives and the Aerospace group objectives. Incumbent will act as subject matter expert with the flexibility to apply their expertise to different product lines within the aerospace division.

  • Possesses a broad strategic vision of the company's future products and services including ownership of the technology roadmaps.

  • Provides technical governance for the divisional engineering team and holding the site chief engineers, project leads, and specialists accountable for robust design processes and methods aligned to the needs of the programs.

  • Generates technical solutions and has accountability for the integrity of design solutions on multiple programs including program technical and design reviews with key signatory approval.

  • Drives best practice methodologies for MSD Environmental products (mechanical, electrical, software) across aerospace with proven methods and tools and serves as the "surrogate customer" for quality acceptance of all products and technical deliverables by personally getting involved, designing, teaching, coaching, and mentoring.

  • Champions the Eaton Aerospace Common Engineering Standards (ACES) with responsibility for ensuring correct deployment, execution, and adherence thereafter. Key signatory and gate keeper on ACES driven program reviews.

  • Drives complete design of components or systems to meet customer requirements of performance and cost.

  • Collaborates with customers and suppliers and anticipates the future based on a deep understanding and familiarity of current technology trends and directions.

  • May serve as key technical lead to the Integrated Program Development Team, and to customers on large and complex programs in support of or in place of the site level chief engineers.

  • Key interface to relevant professional organizational and standards bodies. Proactively represent and promote Eaton Aerospace by taking an active role in external forums.

  • Facilitates and leads root cause and correction action (RCCA) activities, serves as approver for RCCAs.

  • Facilitates cross Eaton support of Aerospace design review and technical audits.

  • Leads Non-Advocate Reviews across Aerospace programs as tasked.

  • Teaches and promotes application of Design For Six Sigma tools and methods.

  • Leads technical mentoring, including the strategy and coordination with site chief engineers and specialists across the engineering organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution is required.

  • 10 years of experience within aerospace or a high-tech industry with new product development and sustaining support.

  • 5 years of experience in mechanical or electrical components and/or systems.

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR/EAR or have the ability to be authorized under licenses from Department of State and Department of Commerce. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (ie 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • Advanced Engineering degree from an accredited institution.

  • 15 years of experience within aerospace industry with new product development and sustaining support - specific to Environmental systems

  • Key role in aerospace related professional organization

  • DFSS Greenbelt or Blackbelt. If Greenbelt, progress on a development plan to Blackbelt is required

  • DFSS Greenbelt with a development plan for Blackbelt certification.

  • Strong analytical skills covering multiple areas of engineering (mechanical design, test, project management, structural analysis, fluid analysis, electrical design).

  • Strong communication and collaboration with engineers, engineering leadership, suppliers and customers.

  • Ability to influence the organization without direct reporting relationship.

  • Ability to identify growth opportunities and nurse them through the Ideation Process, PRELaunch, and PROLaunch.

  • Ability to interact with business and technology leaders.

  • High level of creativity and strategic thinking.

  • Ability to teach and employ DFSS tools and processes.

  • Ability to lead product investigations through 8D methodology.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Work in a Matrix organization within a global virtual engineering organization

  • Network divisional resources

  • Develop productive working relationships with functions and organizations outside of Engineering

  • Develop working relationships within the Aerospace engineering community
