Duties Leads three or more workers to accomplish trades and labor work. Passes instructions on to other workers. Ensures that needed tools and materials are available. Sees that all workers have enough work. Checks work in progress and completed work for compliance. Answers workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and directions. Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work. The non-lead duties include stock selection, stow, research, location survey, physical inventory, material handling, material examining and identifying, packing, and operating Material Handling Equipment (MHE). Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments. Checks accompanying documentation against container or packing labels. Follows established procedures in reporting over, short, misdirected, or damaged materials. Packs and/or preserves a variety of items. Determines the materials, containers, devices and/or preservatives needed. Assembles items for shipment in the loading area according to information provided on the shipping requests and checks the condition of shipping containers prior to loading. Ensures shipments are properly loaded onto the right conveyances. Counts types and quantities of items during inventories, and maintains tally listings during the count. Recounts or searches other storage locations to assist in determining the basis for over, short, or misplaced items. Operates one or more types of material handling equipment such as standard type forklift with a lifting capacity of up to 15,000 pounds, warehouse tractor, or general-purpose vehicle. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license and Hazmat certification. Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state drivers license/certification to operate government vehicles. Must be able to obtain and maintain hazardous certification IAW Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) regulations. Subject to Overseas Rotation Agreement, Tour Length: Yes/36 Months Qualifications Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. The Ability to Lead (SOE): Ability to instruct other workers on less complex work methods; refer to manuals as a means in answering questions related to the duties and responsibilities of the position; and adhere to all safety standards Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: Work requires standing on hard surfaces maintaining balance for extended periods of time. Requires pushing, pulling and depressing various hand and foot controls which require bending, stooping, reaching, and twisting in tiring and uncomfortable positions, many times all at the same time. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds; may lift greater weights with assistance. Working Conditions: Work is performed within a warehousing environment. Poor lighting conditions may exist in some areas. Occasionally required to work outdoors to move items between warehouses in areas that are hot, cold, drafty or damp. When working outdoors, the employee is subject to prevailing weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, and rain. Some exposure to dust, grease, dirt, solvents, and fumes. There are some risks involved with handling and processing of hazardous material. Individual is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and abrasions. Working conditions are a normal part of the job and are considered in the evaluation of the position. Works on hard surfaces and regularly requires standing, stooping, bending, reaching, stretching, pushing and pulling. Work is performed at a relatively steady pace with an occasional requirement encountered to work rapidly to meet specific deadlines. Safety and Health Requirements: Employee is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area where assigned. Types of protective clothing and equipment include, but are not limited to, the following: safety eyeglasses, respirators, and steel-toed shoes and protective clothing such as gloves, mask, apron, and coveralls. Other types may be required as deemed necessary by authorized management officials.
