Job Description We are seeking an exceptional scientific leader for the role of Distinguished Scientist which is an Executive Director level reporting to an Associate Vice President in Development Sciences & Clinical Supply . The Distinguished Scientist will provide scientific direction and partner with the Development Sciences and Clinical Supply Digital Leadership Team to define the in silico strategy for our organization, comprising Process Research & Development, Analytical Research & Development, and Pharmaceutical Sciences & Clinical Supply. The ideal candidate should be a visionary with an established track record in leading research and scientific problem-solving, with a particular focus in the areas of data science and analytics. Experience in one or more of the areas of Drug Substance development, Drug Product development or Analytical Research is critical for connecting these in silico opportunities to our business needs. Workstreams featured include: Advanced Analytics/Machine Learning-Enabled Experimental Design In Silico Drug Substance Process Development In Silico Drug Product Process Development In Silico Analytical Method Development In Silico Stability Monitoring The individual should have demonstrated commitment toward scientific advances related to data acquisition, architecture and/or applications. Prior experience with anticipating and solving diverse and significant scientific and technical challenges across drug development is expected. In this role, the incumbent will be responsible for steering data science strategy with an eye toward pipeline applications, spanning a wide range of modalities, ranging from discovery research to product development and commercialization, inclusive of drug substance, drug product and analytical applications. They will be a partner to the Digital Leadership Team to define the team strategy and advocate implementation of data science solutions across multiple disciplines, while helping to accelerate progression of diverse organizational talent and to upskill the broader organization on in silico opportunities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Active contributor engaged in broad discussions related to scientific vision to build and sustain industry-leading, modality independent Data Science Development platforms. Proposing new drug development-related methodologies and applications to be studied using in silico tools. Backing and sponsoring evaluation of progressive methodologies, driving implementation to the development and commercialization space. Helping to prioritize functional and cross-functional in silico investments, while identifying synergies that exist across investments to streamline operations. Accountable to ensure the strength and diversity of the next generation of scientific talent, with a particular focus on digital upskilling and enablement. Maintaining recognition as an internationally known expert in their field through regular publication in peer reviewed journals and participating actively in scientific meetings, including chairing sessions. May serve on expert committees outside our Company, on editorial boards, planning committees or major scientific meetings. The Distinguished Scientist should demonstrate effectiveness in the following key dimensions: Provides strategic scientific influence, originates and develops new project/ program ideas. Contributes expertise and creativity to the collective knowledge and aids in developing drug development in silico tools and using them to help solve complex pipeline problems. Recognized as a scientific expert, strongly influences senior leaders and helps steer scientific strategy and policy. Recognized nationally/ internationally for scientific expertise in data science technologies. Provide mentorship and scientific direction to develop scientific excellence in the team. Strong role model, coach and mentor of junior scientists. History of consistently delivering innovations and implementing novel approaches to impact across the pipeline. Demonstrated interest and experience toward adoption and integration of automation and data science/machine learning solutions. Education Ph.D. with years or M.S. with years in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, chemical/ biochemical engineering, computer science, data analytics, data science or related disciplines.
