Authentic8 is seeking an experienced leader to join our team as the Director of Technical Operations. In this role, you will oversee our organization's Cloud Operations and Site Reliability Engineering work centers. The Director of Technical Operations reports to the Head of Operations and collaborates closely with the organization's Platform Engineering team and management personnel in peer departments to drive the success of Operations initiatives and objectives. This role is a critical driver within the company and is crucial to ensuring the platform's availability and performance.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the processes and systems that ensure service availability, performance, and cost balance remain in alignment with guidelines set by the Head of Operations.
  • Provides direction and management to work center managers (Cloud Ops and SRE) and ensures the success and performance of their teams.
  • Collaborates with the Head of Operations to define tasking associated with the Ops roadmap and department-wide objectives; drives/ensures timely completion of assigned tasking by subordinate work centers and Platform Engineering personnel.
  • Champions the department's roadmap and initiatives, ensuring alignment with company objectives. Personally owns the department's system of sprint-based task management and prioritizes/assigns tasking based on strategic value, established timelines, impact on service, cost, and cross-functional value.
  • Regularly collaborates with cross-functional department leaders and provides periodic briefings to company executives on matters related to cloud operations and SRE.
  • Ensures the success of chartered Cloud Operations responsibilities, including SLA and performance monitoring, anomaly investigation and incident response, capacity monitoring/response, and routine maintenance.
  • Ensures the success of chartered SRE responsibilities, including infrastructure tuning and advanced maintenance, automation, incident escalation, systems documentation and capacity planning/modeling
Requirements:
  • At least 10 years proven experience as a manager and practitioner/engineer in technical operations (e.g., Operations, DevOps, SRE, Infrastructure Engineering, Platform Engineering, etc.)
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks effectively
  • Familiarity with industry best practices and emerging technologies in technical operations (e.g., infrastructure as code, IaaS management, patch management)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Ability to undergo and pass a stringent background check
  • U.S citizenship required
Desired:
  • Master's degree in engineering management or a related field
  • Previous experience with project management, especially agile-based task management
  • Experience with technical operations management that adheres to strict security and compliance frameworks (e.g., FedRAMP, ISO:IEC 27001, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of implementing solutions that involve the following technologies or services: Chef (Ruby), CI/CD, Python, Linux / Ubuntu, FIPS 140-2, Google Cloud (Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, VPC Networks, etc.), AWS (EC2, Route53, S3, etc.), OpenSSL, OpenSSH, Strongswan. Software load balancer and jumphost tech (Haproxy, Squid, Redsocks, NGINX, etc.)
  • Industry certification(s) or commensurate knowledge in the following areas: System administration and design, Cloud architecture and/or management, Project management and/or ITILNetwork design and/or management
Salary Range
  • $160,000 - $180,000 plus Bonus and Equity
