GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: The Cellular Immunotherapy Program at Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking a Director of Scientific Research to work in the Maus Lab. The Director of Scientific Research plays a key role in the day-to-day administration of the research activities of the Maus Laboratory. The Maus Laboratory is dedicated to advancing innovative CAR-T cell therapies from research to first-in-human studies. The research teams in the Maus Laboratory develop and test novel cancer immunotherapies, many of which go on to subsequent clinical studies. The Director of Scientific Research oversees these research activities and performs critical functions required for the optimal operation of the research enterprise within the Maus Laboratory. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Directs the research teams to ensure high quality research is conducted lab wide Oversees the planning, implementation, and tracking of early-stage research projects Oversight of collection and processing of preliminary data for grant submissions Oversees laboratory electronic notebooks Assurance of compliance with MGB IP and backup requirements for research Assurance of compliance with lab's design control process Implements the post-doctoral fellow hiring process Liaison to industry contacts Assists with the scientific strategy of the Maus Lab and serve as curator for inventory of lab vectors and plasmids, ordering, and quality control of these critical reagents. Develop and ensure compliance with best practice guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures for the lab Develop and implement tools, systems, and resources to support professional development and growth for researchers Serve as a resource for and assist with grant and philanthropic proposal development and multi-center research initiatives to support investigator research endeavors and maintain center support Participate in the design, execution, and analysis of a variety of standard and novel cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry assays Assists in managing intellectual property portfolio Edits manuscripts Provides orientation and training to new research staff Provides training to appropriate staff members Provides direct day-to-day guidance to research staff Assigns and prioritizes workloads for research staff members Serves as a resource for staff Effectively troubleshoots and resolves issues along with other directors Performs other related duties as required SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Required 1. Strong background in immunology, cell therapy 2. Ability to diagnose and solve problems of moderate complexity 3. Skill in management of research projects and/or personnel 4. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team of scientists medical doctors, and administrative staff 5. Demonstrated expertise with cell culture, molecular biology, and gene manipulation techniques 6. Interpersonal skills of a level as necessary to interact with a research team in a complex environment under general direction 7. Experience with IND submissions or other prior FDA interactions 8. Experience in technical presentation and teaching EDUCATION: Minimum Required: PhD in Immunology, Cancer Biology, Cell Biology, or a closely related field required Highly Desirable 1. A minimum of 3 years' experience in a cell therapy laboratory in a hospital, industry or academic setting required 2. Supervisory experience preferred
