TITLE: Director of Student Wellness and Experience DEPARTMENT: Student Success REPORTS TO: Vice Provost of Student Affairs EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time Staff EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: Under general direction of the Vice Provost of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Wellness and Experience serves as a primary resource for student wellness, experience, and holistic support. The Director oversees University Counseling, Housing and Residence Life, Student Activities, and Student Conduct, and Student Health and Accessibility Services. The mission of the Student Wellness and Experience Office is to serve as a resource for helping students resolve university-related issues and concerns and advance to degree. We are committed to supporting the academic success of students by fostering the development of integrity and problem-solving skills; teaching self-advocacy and personal responsibility; and providing students with opportunities to learn and practice the fundamental principles of good citizenship, responsible leadership, and the importance of diversity in a global society. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: The Director will oversee the assistance of students in navigating and accessing campus and community resources and provide advocacy, resources, and referrals for services. The position supports students struggling to navigate the university system, students with current and emerging mental, psychological, or physical health issues and students experiencing issues adjusting to academic and social life. The position works closely with the Behavioral Intervention Team to assist with various aspects of program administration. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: University Counseling Design and implement comprehensive, coordinated training opportunities to support faculty in identifying advising and mental health needs of their students, while incorporating strategies that promote equity, inclusion, and innovation. Student Activities Provide leadership and advise staff in student development theory and practice as it relates to student activities and engagement. Assist in managing budgets, planning, organization, and implementation of organizations' programs and events. Oversee the planning and execution of major campus-wide events Foster collaboration with various departments and faculty/staff advisors for student organization success, deliverables, and strategic growth. Foster positive communications and maintain a high profile at student programs, athletic events, and campus initiatives. Student Conduct Serve as the primary conduct officer for the Student Wellness and Experience Office by hearing cases and rendering outcomes or facilitate and advise formal disciplinary processes. Key manager and trainer of Maxient Advise the All-University Court and assist the Student Conduct Officer in developing and implementing Court Training In partnership with the Vice Provost of Student Affairs, review and develop policies and processes related to student conduct and manage the K Book edit and update yearly, and ensure that it is detailed and accurate. Student Health Plan, organize, and direct Student Health Services operations and activities; ensure that related activities comply with established standards, requirements, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures; implement and evaluate Program Review processes and student learning outcome assessments; develop, implement and evaluate standardized procedures and clinical protocols. Housing Directly supervises the Associate Director of Housing who: Oversees implementation of the on campus residential programming module Oversees the direction and growth of the Living Learning Communities program Train professional staff members in on-call response, professionalism, supervision, leadership, payroll, and departmental expectations OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: The Director of Student Wellness and Experience will be an experienced, collaborative and agile leader who builds enduring relationships both internally and externally on behalf of the University. The Director will have a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges in the daily lives of students in undergraduate and graduate programs and will have a strong understanding of the current issues and best practices in diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging praxis. The successful candidate will have a master's degree in higher education administration or a related field in combination with at least seven (7) years of progressively responsible leadership roles in higher education or related fields as well as experience supervising and developing staff. Licensing and Certifications Licensed Therapist - LPCC, LCSW, Ph.D. in Psychology, or similar KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Knowledge: Student Development Theory: Understanding of theories and models related to student development and learning, as well as the ability to apply them in creating programs and services that enhance student well-being. Mental Health and Counseling: Knowledge of mental health issues affecting students, including common challenges like stress, anxiety, and depression. Familiarity with counseling and support services available to students. Health and Wellness Practices: Understanding of holistic health and wellness practices, including physical fitness, nutrition, and stress management. Diversity and Inclusion: Awareness of the diverse needs and backgrounds of students, with an emphasis on creating inclusive programs and services that meet the needs of a varied student population. Higher Education Policies: Familiarity with university policies, regulations, and compliance standards related to student well-being and experience. Skills: Leadership: Ability to provide strategic leadership and direction for the student wellness and experience department, fostering a positive and supportive environment. Communication: Strong communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and external partners. Effective communication of wellness initiatives and resources to the student body. Program Development and Implementation: Skill in designing, implementing, and assessing wellness programs and initiatives that address the diverse needs of students. Crisis Management: Ability to respond effectively to crises and emergencies, including coordination with campus security, mental health professionals, and other relevant resources. Data Analysis: Proficiency in collecting and analyzing data to assess the effectiveness of wellness programs, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions. Abilities: Empathy and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to relate to students, understanding their concerns and needs, and building a rapport that encourages them to seek assistance when necessary. Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with other departments, faculty, and external organizations to create a comprehensive approach to student well-being. Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the student population and higher education landscape, as well as the ability to implement new initiatives based on emerging trends. Advocacy: Willingness and ability to advocate for resources and support services that enhance the overall student experience. Strategic Planning: Capability to develop and execute a strategic plan that aligns with the university's mission and goals for student well-being and experience. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position has supervisory responsibilities PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. No or very limited physical effort is required. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
