Job Summary

Responsible for planning, implementing and maintaining a program of professional development in the clinical department in accordance with current Federal, State and company standards, guidelines and regulations. Demonstrates and teaches resident care in classroom and clinical units to nursing staff. Instructs in principles and application of physical, biological and psychological subjects related to nursing and resident care.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Assesses the training needs of nursing staff to develop, implement, evaluate and document staff development programs including General Orientation, Job Specific Orientation, In-Service, and Continuing Education Programs for nursing department personnel.
  • Identifies, plans, implements, directs and evaluates educational program within the facility based upon individual facility needs, resident needs, and in compliance with State and Federal regulations; implements these programs on all shifts.
  • Responsible for the planning, coordinating and conducting required in-service programs and/or special training sessions in compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and/or corporate requirements.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing (designee) to complete periodic needs assessment identifying ongoing learning needs of staff and assists in developing and conducting educational programs to meet the identified needs.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation of educational programming, each individual employee's attendance at educational programs and competency validation as needed.
  • Coordinates hospital-wide Infection Prevention Control Program.
  • Complies with Federal and state regulations. Adheres to Administration (OSHA), Association for Professionals in Infection Control & Epidemiology (APIC), Association Occupational Health Professionals (AHOP) and other regulatory agencies.
  • Prioritizes Infection Prevention goals.
  • Collaborates with Department managers and medical directors in implementing aspects of the Infection Prevention Program when requested or as needed.
  • Follow standard infection control standards, including following isolation precautions
  • Standard Precautions - assume every person is potentially infected with a pathogen that could be transmitted in the healthcare setting
  • Attend a training on correct use and proper donning and disposal of any Personal Protective Equipment (which we provide full PPE for all staff following rigorous sanitation standards by the CDC, including a very engaged Admin/DON.)

Qualifications


• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state in which practicing.


• Associate or Bachelor Degree from an accredited nursing school preferred.


• Five years in long-term or acute health care preferred.


• At least 2 years nursing education experience required.
