DEPARTMENT: LABORATORY FACILITY: Tift Regional Medical Center WORK TYPE: Full Time SUMMARY: The Director of Laboratory Services (DLS) is the administrative role in charge of all aspects of the laboratory. This includes provision of services, budget, staffing, test menu, and regulatory oversight. This position works with the Medical Director and other laboratory leadership to maintain safe, efficient, quality operations. RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitor all aspects of the department budget, including volume, revenue, and expenses. Work with Medical Director, Administration, and laboratory leadership to ensure the laboratory meets the needs of its customers. Maintain knowledge of regulatory compliance and accreditation standards. Oversees laboratory technical staff. Oversees laboratory support staff. Oversees laboratory point of care. Oversees laboratory outreach. Review and refer agreements and contracts to Supply Chain and Legal to maintain service agreements and pricing agreements. Assesses new hires performance and completes 120 day evaluation. Assesses the performance of employees and completes annual evaluations on each. Conducts all aspects of supervision in a fair, firm, consistent and objective manner, including counseling employees privately. Continually works to improve processes to allow for better care for patients, faster results for physicians, and increased growth potential from outreach. Reviews the quality data of the laboratory to ensure compliance with established regulations. Motivates subordinate staff to assure maintenance of objectives. Provides in-services training on proper and safety operations of the laboratory. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs. Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position. Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs. Attends all mandatory education programs. Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes. Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements. Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department. Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects. Manages resources effectively. Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment. Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime. EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Education equivalent experience: Bachelor's degree in related science and/or certified as a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist.
