The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals is seeking Pediatric Interventional Cardiologists to lead our diagnostic and interventional Pediatric and Adult Congenital Catheterization Program. Appointment will be made at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank of the HS Clinical or Clinical X series. Academic rank is commensurate with experience.

The selected candidate will join a major academic medical center and established training program. This position may have clinical responsibilities at both the San Francisco and Oakland campuses and would actively contribute to the Department's mission of excellence in research,education, and patient care.

The Director of Interventional Catheterization will oversee the program's medical direction in collaboration with other divisions of the Pediatric Heart Center, including cardiac surgery, anesthesia, nursing, and hospital administration. They will lead and partner with our team of pediatric interventionalists performing diagnostic and interventional congenital catheterization procedures across our three hospital sites.

Required Qualifications:

  • Medical degree and license
  • Board certification/eligibility in pediatrics
  • Board certification/eligibility in pediatric cardiology, including formal clinical training or sufficient
    experience in congenital cardiac catheterization and interventions
  • Completion of an advanced fourth-year pediatric fellowship
  • Minimum of five years of practice experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous leadership experience in an academic setting
  • Board certification/eligibility in adult congenital cardiology


Anticipated Job Duties:

  • Medical Director, Pediatric Cardiac Cath Labs BCH San Francisco and Oakland: Responsible for all aspects of the Cath Program's development, administration, and clinical activities. You will work with the hospital administration, the Heart Center, and the Department to optimize the program's structure, fiscal status, administrative organization, and clinical outcomes. You will oversee data management for the program's clinical and financial activities, including collection, analysis, and presentation. You will lead and encourage all academic aspects of the program and its members, including oversight and implementation of robust quality improvement processes.
  • Cath Interventional Program Clinical Responsibilities: The program currently performs 600 diagnostic and interventional cath procedures annually at three hospital sites. You will join a team of three pediatric interventional cardiologists covering the service 24/7.
  • General Cardiology Service: You will be a member of the inpatient cardiology service along with approximately ten other pediatric cardiologists. The service runs the 12-bed Cardiac Transitional Care Unit and consults on all other pediatric cardiology patients (pre- and post-surgical and medical consultation) in the hospital. The weekday service will entail approximately six weeks of weekday service. The weekend on-call service will be shared among a larger group of cardiologists, entailing about six weekends per year.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 ( ). The minimum base salary range for this position is $121,100-$320,100. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan ( ) which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

For positions that are 50% effort or less:
See Table 2 ( ) for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $86,500-$228,600.
