Title: Director of Facility Management

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under executive direction, is responsible for the overall quality of Park District facilities, repairs and maintenance. Responsible for cost effective, timely and high-quality maintenance standards for the Park District. Performs related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Plans and establishes goals and objectives for the department.
  • Directs the coordination and preparation of the department's annual budget.
  • Establishes workplans to schedule, monitor, track and document the execution of construction, repairs and maintenance work.
  • Initiates, negotiates, oversees and manages contracts.
  • Responsible for the overall condition, appearance and operation of Park District facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration or a directly related field, and ten (10) years of managerial or project management experience, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience. Experience dealing with outside contractors and labor unions is recommended. License Requirement: Valid Illinois Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong administrative and managerial skills overseeing a sizeable staff and multi-million dollar department budget.
  • Knowledge of construction, facility maintenance and management.
  • Ability to work effectively with labor unions.
  • Ability to coordinate with and manage private contractors and constructively communicate with the public sector.
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate with other public works departments.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong oral/written communication and team building skills.
  • Working knowledge of technology applications such as Microsoft Office, work order/project management systems and financial systems.
