Location: Hickory, North Carolina The Director of Disability Services provides information to assist students with disabilities in their transition and adjustment to Lenoir-Rhyne University. Specific Job Functions Responsibility for reviewing and interpreting documentation that substantiates disabilities Conducts intake interviews and determines eligibility for services and appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities Determines accommodation plans for each student with a disability that contacts the Disability Services Office for accommodations Coordinates needed services in collaboration with individual faculty for classroom modifications Hires and supervises support staff within the Disability Services Office-(i.e., Technology Specialist, Interpreters/Transliterators; GA-Testing Coordinator) Coordinates resources to ensure the academic access and retention of student with disabilities Assists with retention efforts, orientation programs and advising Serves as a liaison with various campus offices in providing services to students with disabilities Serves as a liaison with outside service agencies (e.g., vocational rehabilitation, veteran's administration, social security and community college disability service providers) to provide community resource supports for students Works with and provides training to assist campus personnel with understanding of students with disabilities at post-secondary institutions Provides information and knowledge of pertinent federal laws pertaining to students with disabilities including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (Revised 2010) as it relates to higher education institutions Serves as the University 504/Title III Coordinator Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Master's degree in education, disability services, human services, rehabilitation counseling or a closely related field with 5 years of experience working with students with disabilities required Knowledge of Disability Laws, including Section 504 & 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and associated case law required Experience in post-secondary disability services environment is preferred Reporting: Reports to the VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; 12 Month Position; Full-time Department: Student Life Wage Class: Salary, Exempt Non-Discrimination and Equal Opportunity Policy Lenoir-Rhyne University does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, citizenship, religion, political affiliation, age, marital status, sex, gender (including gender identity and expression), sexual orientation, disability status, genetics, pregnancy or veteran status.
