PURPOSE This position is responsible for planning and implementing the master construction schedule to meet deadlines for completion. The Director of Construction will provide leadership and direction by strategically planning, directing and coordinating activities pertaining to new store construction. He/she will ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget and adhere to plans, specifications, safety program, and quality standards. In addition, perform all management duties including, but not limited to, leading the construction team, budgeting, scheduling, coordinating work, and managing intra-department project reviews/scope changes. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee all new store construction projects from inception to completion Supervise and direct the Construction Managers Manage new store projects, plan reviews, and field requests (keeping appropriate individuals, including internal and external partners advised of current status and critical issues) to ensure customers' needs are met Conduct site surveys prior to project inception and inform department head of any extenuating circumstances that would affect timing, budget or operations of the facility With the assistance of Construction Manager(s), create all project budgets Manage all construction project budgets tracking current spend versus approved and informing department head of any issues that would cause the project to exceed approved budget Manage architects to ensure project plans incorporate the company's current design criteria Conduct periodic meetings with key intra-department staff to ensure current design criteria satisfies each department's requirements Ensure each construction project maintains the required schedule by organizing, planning, and monitoring work progress of the construction project managers Maintain and enforce global safety regulations and building code requirements Organize and run progress, quality control and safety meetings with Construction Project Managers, in house trade staff, general contractors and subcontractors Conduct weekly update conference calls with cross functional partners and field personnel Special projects as needed or requested by department head MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 10+ years of construction director/manager experience in a retailer environment with primary focus on second generation building remodels and secondary experience in ground up construction Multiple project and team management experience required Knowledge of applicable building codes and regulations Knowledge of acceptable construction site practices including occupational safety and health regulations PMP or CCM certification preferred 30 hours of OSHA certifications preferred Strong interpersonal skills to interact with internal support center staff, general contractors, municipal leaders, subcontractors and senior management team Strong leadership and decision making ability Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) Proficient in scheduling and estimating software Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite Must be detail-oriented highly organized Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment Ability to work flexible hours in order to meet deadlines WORKING CONDITIONS (TRAVEL, HOURS, ENVIRONMENT) This position is salaried, knowing it may include hours which exceed eight hours in a day or forty hours in a week Significant travel required including air and car travel While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to noisy. PHYSICAL/SENSORY REQUIREMENTS Medium Work - Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. The employee is often required to use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Store Support Center Associates Provide leadership and support training on all Safety programs, processes and procedures, insuring that every associate is properly trained for their position. Follow established Safety procedures in all aspects of work assignments applicable to the position. This includes participating in all Safety related training and acquiring certifications. Each associate is responsible for Safety at the Store Support Center and when visiting other company work locations. All Safety concerns must be brought to the attention of the management of a location and/or the Store Support Center Safety Department immediately.
