Job Summary and Qualifications The Director maintains 24-hour responsibility for the direction, supervision, coordination and evaluation of activities and performances in the professional practice of the staff in the Cath Lab, Heart and Vascular Unit, Cardiovascular Imaging, and Heart Failure Clinic. Directs and coordinates the Quality Assessment and Improvement activities of these departments. Oversees the development, review and revision of policies, procedures and practice guidelines specific to Cardiac Care of cardiology patients. Is accountable for the financial operation of cardiovascular services. You will integrate department services with the hospital's primary functions. You will coordinate and integrate services within their department and with other departments. You will develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services. You will recommend a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care. You will determine the qualifications and competence of department personnel who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners. You will continuously assess and improve department and the organization's performance. You will maintain appropriate quality control programs. You will review and approve employee payroll. Assure that payroll sheets are accurately completed and are turned in to the Payroll Department within the specified period. You will assure that new employees receive appropriate orientation to the unit. Unit orientation includes the use of equipment used in the Cath Lab, QA and QI activities and special skills certifications. You will assure that education and training of the Cath Lab staff is ongoing. The Cath Lab education and training is designed to maintain and improve the knowledge and skills associated with the care of cardiology patients and are based on identified learning needs of the staff. In-service or other educational activities are routinely provided for staff. You will assure that staff members are certified to perform the specialized skills required in the cardiovascular departments. (i.e. Moderate Sedation, CPR, Venipuncture, etc.). You will hold at least 6 unit specific staff meetings per year. Meeting content includes discussion of QA and QI activities, identification of problems, proposed solutions, exchange of information, and relevant educational topics. Minutes are written and maintained for all meetings held. You will deal directly with physicians, visitors and/or patients who express concerns or have complaints concerning any aspect of cardiovascular services. Respond professionally and in a kind and understanding manner. Provide written information and follow-up to the Director of Nursing and/or Chief Executive Office when appropriate. You will respond to all code situations in the Cath Lab immediately: (Code Blue, Code Red, etc.). Provide direction and act as a resource to other responders. Assign staff to respond as needed. You will serve as a liaison between the medial staff and nursing. Attempt to meet the needs of medical staff when possible. Forward requests of the medical staff on to the Director of Nursing and/or the Chief Executive Officer. Provide adequate equipment/supplies and other needs to the medial staff. You will assure that policies, procedures, and practice guidelines are written specific to the Cardiac Cath Lab, Heart and Vascular Unit, Cardiovascular Imaging, and Heart Failure Clinic. Policies/procedures/practice guidelines are reviewed at least every two years and are updated as necessary. What qualifications you will need: Advanced Cardiac Life Support Bachelors Degree from an accredited School of Nursing 2+ years experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab 1+ year of experience in management Basic Cardiac Life Support, or CPR Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation.
