Astranis is interested in hiring its first full-time member of its Government Relations team. This role is responsible for developing and implementing Astranis's government affairs strategy for the legislative branch. This will be a wide-ranging role that is best suited for someone with 5+ years of experience on Capitol Hill, whether as part of a member office or committee staff.
This role will report to the company's Vice President for External Relations.
Role
- Formulate Astranis's congressional engagement strategy in partnership with the VP of External Relations and other Astranis executives
- Conduct research and help prepare materials for congressional engagement
- Promote Astranis's government relations priorities working with relevant committees and members of Congress
- Represent Astranis in our engagements with think tanks, industry groups, etc. to advance Astranis's priorities
- Coordinate and staff meetings on Capitol Hill with members of congress and their staffers, both independently and alongside Astranis leadership (CEO, VPs)
- Manage the "air traffic control" for Astranis's external consultants and third parties, coordinating outreach to key members and ensuring all relevant submission deadlines are met
- Keep Astranis leadership informed of Capitol Hill news and developments (e.g., updates on legislation, activities of key Members of Congress, hearings, etc.)
- Research, draft, and edit deliverables, including white papers, Congressional hearing questions, publications (i.e. articles, op-eds), etc. that represent Astranis
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. Graduate degrees preferred but not required.
- 5+ years of experience working on Capitol Hill, as a congressional staffer involved with defense or national security matters, or equivalent experience as a government official or an employee at a relevant company
- Deep understanding of the US federal appropriations and authorization processes
- Demonstrated ability to build positive, close working relationships on the Hill
- Superlative written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
