Director, Environmental Health & Safety (Onsite)

Position Summary: This role involves providing comprehensive environmental, health, and safety (EHS) direction and leadership to support the operations of a prominent U.S. manufacturing organization. The focus is on ensuring compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations while maintaining a proactive and industry-leading EHS performance.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:



Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide strategic leadership for various EHS initiatives to uphold the organization's reputation as an industry leader.
  • Ensure continuous improvement in EHS performance while adhering to regulatory standards.


Committees and Collaboration:

  • Chair or collaborate with internal and external teams/committees for developing EHS-related missions, policies, and programs.
  • Act as a liaison to external entities, including federal, state, and local agencies, customers, suppliers, industry groups, and government entities.


Program Development and Compliance:

  • Develop EHS programs and policies in accordance with EPA, OSHA, and state regulations.
  • Provide technical expertise, leadership, and support for regulatory compliance issues in EHS.


Team Management and Mentorship:

  • Mentor the EHS team, standardizing protocols, procedures, and recordkeeping.
  • Provide insights on new acquisitions, processes, and equipment.


Audits and Investigations:

  • Periodically audit EHS programs and policies for effectiveness.
  • Review incident data, determine root causes, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.


Reporting and Compliance Assurance:

  • Ensure collection and maintenance of internal and regulatory reporting data.
  • Act as the primary contact for regulatory agency inspections, audits, permitting, and reporting.


Workers' Compensation and Safety Programs:

  • Administer the workers' compensation program, track claims, and oversee the Return to Work Program.
  • Act as the company's representative for legal and WC matters.


Radiation Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Act as the corporate Radiation Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with NRC and State Radioactive Materials programs regulations.
  • Review and ensure compliance with State and NRC radioactive materials licenses.


Hazardous Waste Management:

  • Ensure compliance with RCRA and DOT regulations for hazardous waste.
  • Act as the Emergency Coordinator for fire, smoke, spill, and medical incidents.


Contract Management and Industrial Hygiene:

  • Act as the EHS point of contact for contract management.
  • Coordinate annual industrial hygiene monitoring and assess new avenues for waste reduction.


Training and Cost Management:

  • Manage EHS training programs, recordkeeping, and track associated costs.
  • Implement the environmental management plan and lead data collection for Safety Data Sheets.


Education and/or Experience:
B.S. Environmental Health & Safety, B.S. Safety Engineering or equivalent, and 10 years of relevant experience or M.S. Environmental Health & Safety, M.S. Safety Engineering or equivalent, and 8 years of relevant experience.
Previous experience in explosive safety, radiation safety, laser safety, Agile, Oracle, DOD, and NFPA is a plus.


Working Conditions:
Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is required in designated areas.
